Hi all, im new

I have not been gambling for 6 day's as i have given all available (left over penny's) money to my familily and friends, as i know i have a problem. I have not excluded myself from online sites because i dont want to even go back on and look at those sites ( for some people those sites are fun , profitable, but for me its a complete self destruction) I will soon share my story online. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, as over the last couple of days, reading your life history has helped me a lot.

I will explain all soon, but i have lost thousands (not over years and months, but over days and weeks), but i have reconciled myself to living cheaply so that I can first pay my debts then save some money

Regards

Hello Jude,

It is good to know that you have felt helped by reading the posts of our forum members. Well done on joining the forum and posting here. If you like, you could start an online diary in the 'Recovery diaries' section, to help you to remain engaged with the online peer support on the forum. You're also welcome to join our live group chatrooms.

I appreciate that you currently feel an aversion to going on the online gambling sites, but self-excluding now could protect you from gambling another day when you may feel differently. You might also like to consider using blocking software to make it less easy to open up gambling accounts with different operators: http://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-advice/what-can-you-do/blocking-software#.VCA52fldXww

You mentioned that you have debts, so you might be interested in obtaining free professional debt advice from services like StepChange 0800 138 1111 or the National Debtline 0808 808 4000 or PayPlan 0800 280 2816. You also said that you plan to save in the future; you could consider ways to protect those future savings, for example placing your savings in an account that doesn't offer you instant access but instead requires a notice period for withdrawals, and allowing a trusted family member to have oversight of your finances.

If you'd like to talk about any of this, or if you'd like information on local free counselling services, you're welcome to call us on 0808 8020 133.

Take care,

Forum admin.
