I hope I've come to the right place. I've been gambling since I was 15. I'm now 21. I've lost about 30k. I've lost two cars. Ive gone from havjng 11k In my bank to having nothing and now having 4k debt in loans. I just can't stop. I go for about a week or two, then I have abad urge to continue. I lost £365 just yesterday. IM losing money I haven't even got. I'm at a real low. I take everything out on my girlfriend. I have no motivation or anything. I need help or support from somewhere. Someone must surely understand. My family and friends just say why don't you just stop, but no one seems to understand!

No they don't. If only stopping was as easy as that!

Have you given Gamcare a ring? Might be good first stop. Then if you think you need more help some counselling. Then there's GA too?

I've been on the chat to them. They've offered cousilling but I can't due to work commitments. They offered me online help which I agreed to and waiting for an email. Which has never been sent

Hi Andy,

I know how you feel when it comes to asking family & friends for advise "you're being an idiot, just don't gamble..."

I think going an hour without gambling is trying, but that's not going to get anoybody very far.

I'm in the very early stages of stopping, but my advice so far would be make it a real pain in the a*s to gamble.

I'm putting up as many barriers as I can and already I've noticed I'm gambling less.

Hi Andy, most of the human race won't understand you, that is something i am beginning to understand. People on this site will understand you and trained counsellors get it, beyond that ..................................... What i will say to you is this a/: when you reach your rock bottom and stop chasing your losses, and begin to grieve those losses, accept those losses ARE NEVER COMING BACK, b/: put the procedures in place to avoid gambling of no 'time money & location', you will have a real chance of beating this addication. Good luck

I am sorry to hear about your problem. I am going through the same with my son who is 23. He have spent all his wages and his savings £7500 in the last couple of months. Unlike your family and friends I do understand, I understand it is an addiction like any other whether it be alcohol, drugs, food etc. Why not ask your girlfriend to take over your finances until u feel a little more in control. Explain to your family and friends how it effects you, and ask a few of them to allow you to call them and talk until the urge to gamble passes. Have u thought about why u gamble could u b depressed maybe, maybe talk to your doctor see if he can help. U r a young man like my son and if u do not take control now it will control u for the rest of your life. This will have a huge effect on your future especially if u end up with a family of your own, u will never have any fanacial security then your family will also suffer. U have done the right thing by seeking help, my son hasn't as yet, I think he is in denial. I wish u all the best and hope u beat this terrible addiction, just like I hope my son will beat his.

hi andy

pal i know what your going through i'm 30 years old and ive lost over £300,000. due a 4 and half years of CG .. you need to give your finances to someone else maybe the girlfriend. you need to live for at least 8-12months of no money to your name. unless its for travel,etc... now imagaine you lost £30k times by 10, forget about the two cars for 1 second and think how about loosing a house worth at least £250k-£270k how about loosing mates( that you've know since primary school) that have washed their hands off you because you borrowed £50k without any intention of paying them back. how about loosing what finance your partner has? or your parents moneys that they kindly gave you so you can pay your mortagage off. ive been living on £3.50 a day since the 9/2/2015... im on day 4 today i will visit gamcare everyday even when im on day 1000. because i dont have any friend anymore everyone who visits and post on gamcare are my new friends now... we can never gamble again why because WE CAN'T STOP... how about being 30years no car no friends and your walking around like clown on the bus like WASTE-MAN. i had the money to buy anything i want... before i gamble i would be buying the best things in life... but since i started all i have been doing is play FOBT's bookmakers or online or even casino because in the U.S the casino's give interest free loans imagine that for now if that was me... i would have been 300k down and with casino's loan i would have borrowed like million off them.... i don't know why our goverment allows this instead of allowing the gaming insitute to thrive with our losses so they can recover that from them via taxs etc... i rather pay for the NHS at least its going to a good cause gambling is not entertainment its a pure evil... its banned in some countries... and yet our lovely great britian allows kids age 10 to play in sea amussment arcades, the grand national, (they say its a family entertainment... whereas families can go out and have fun)... this is not fun i got introduce to gambling due to fact my dad use to do the little-woods football pools. i used to fill them for him when he couldn;t be bothered and ask me to fll it in... wow that was fun... 20years later ive lost over 300k.... hang in there pal don't give up...... how about this if your problem is bookmaker self exluded from everyone on a 20 mile route. put a K9 blocker for online... hope you can beat it... because im trying,,,,,,,,,,, i can't gamble because i can't stop
