Hi, I have decided to sort my life out. Been gambling for probably 8 years now and, as I have seen on many occasions reading through, I haven't had a month where my wages have lasted more than a week for at least the last 6 years. I feel now is a good time for me to start sorting myself out as I'm nearly 29 years old and don't have a penny to my name. It maybe a small goal but if I could hit 30 with anything above 1k in my bank and (more importantly) be free from paying bookies wages then I will be a happy man. Never admitted/ accepted I have a problem before but think it's time to own up and 'get fixed'. Any ideas/ stratorgies to help out will be greatly appreciated as I don't have a clue how to hit this. I have taken a phone number for a councillor, whom I will contact Monday. I feel if others have similar goals we could have weekly check ins... Someone to pat you on the back kinda thing and help through the hard times?

Thanks for your time and I look forward to (hopefully) hearing from you.

Argie

Hi Argie

Bang on in the same situation as you. I've taken steps today - self excluded from the bookies by my work that was my main problem and also from every online casino I can think of. Is it the bookies that you struggle with? If so I'd recommend it.

Happy to exchange number/email address. I'm in the same situation in that I think having someone in the same situation will help - keep each other going etc.

A day at a time, the weeks will pass and soon we'll be talking months not days.

Read my story! 35 years of torture...now on 77 days gamble free...like you, first time I truely addmitted I had a problem and actually asked for help. I've found this site an absolute nessesity for just logging on and airing your feelings, emotions, triumphs and weaknesses...share your thoughts and fears, share you success...read the experiances that people share, learn from them, you are still young and been gambling a relatively short period of time...but anytime is addictive if you have that nature within you. Cancell out the bad memories and losses and focus on the future taking every day as a win when you don't try to win. You can and will do this with support and advise. I always used to say, 'you're not there to pull me out the bookies or casino', no we're not, but have some pride and don't let us or yourself down. You will never win, you know it, you'll think of the wins you've had in the past, but look at the bigger picture....totally abstain, it's the only way....even a quid will eat at your nature and that will inevitably revert back to the 'old' ways...you'll read that...log on, read, share and focus....well done and be sucessful! (I never say good luck....there's no luck involved, just hard work and commitment, but the rewards are great!

thanks both for your replies, defo agree with the completely giving up as a couple of quid quickly accumulates into silly money. Unstoppable14, keen for that.. do we just post email address/numbers on here or is there a private message type option.
