online gambling

All of the decisions I have made to gamble have been my own,no one has ever forced me to do it. I accept this,I have made some shocking decisions.

However, it baffles me how online sites get away with the way they operate. They make it so easy to open an account and deposit funds,no checks whatsoever. However, when it comes to withdrawing, they make it so difficult. Forms of I'd,photos of cards used and bank statements a required before a withdrawel can be processed. In the meantime your withdrawel is cancelled and the funds back available to gamble with. Then the withdrawel must go back to the card used to deposit from. I have tried3 times to withdraw my money (4k) over the past 24hrs from a site only to be given a further reason for it not to be processed. I have now blown all 4k.

How can it be allowed to make no checks on deposits? Surely if it was fraud its more likely I'm going to be depositing money from someone's card rather than withdrawing to it,thus you would expect more stringent checks on the deposit. Surely it's just a case of them knowing if they make it harder to withdraw, eventually the money will just be gambled again.

I also feel it should be protocol for credit checks when opening an account,my credit score is shot, proving I have financial difficulties so surely should not be gambling .

Anyway, any other thoughts would be welcomed on this subject.

Hi rightchoice.

It's good to see you are able to take ownership for mistakes made in the past.

I think hatred towards a bookmaker is often misguided and I hope to explain why.

Such companies need a licence to operate in the UK and if they do not meet the requirements set out by that licence, they would lose it.

If a customer doesn't make a deposit they cannot gamble. This is why most verification checks are not run until a deposit is made, therefore making the account "active".

As for withdrawals, you would be required to prove that you are aged 18 or over and also prove your address is valid. This again is set out by the licence and is not the fault of the bookmaker. Withdrawals would need to go back to the payment method used to prevent fraud.

You are able to request for the option to cancel withdrawals on an account to be removed. Should you do this the bookmaker is likely to ask you if you have any problems controlling your gambling.

I can fully understand why you would have your views on the matter, but as you mentioned, there has to be some responsibility on the person themselves. If any finger should be pointed it has to go beyond the bookmakers in my opinion.

Of course none of the above would be relevant we didn't gamble, which we all seem to learn the hard way.
