morning, it's payday tomorrow and although the urges have been relatively weak and far in between tomorrow is the first big test, any suggestions on how to avoid being sucked back in. I have already self excluded from all sports betting sites I can think of but there's always another one that can be found (well in my experience anyway). There isn't Nyone I can give control of my money to either :/. Thanks in advance!

I would sgguest getting rid of your debit and credit cards if you have them, and only use a reqular card to buy items that you need as this will stop you betting online. But that is only temporary, make sure you know what tiggers you, is it stress, work, reletionships, not feeling good enough? With me, my addictive gambling started with stress and not feeling good enough, and I just go sucked in.

So, talk to someone about it, try and figure out why you have these urges in the first place and try eliminate one of the three factors that allow you to gamble: Time, Money and Location. Try make it as hard as possible for you to gamble in the future and overtime the urges will cease. But if you have an addictive personaility like myself, you need to know that when your urges are not as apparnt, they are certainly still there. So dont think that since you havent bet in a while you wont get sucked in again, because you will.

Good luck to you!

Morning,

Rethink your banking arrangements? If your wages go into your current account, set up DDs for payday for usual outgoings. Open an instant saver account (or longer term if appropriate), cashcard only and set a low daily withdrawal limit. Move the surplus from the current account into the instant saver, again by DD scheduled for payday.

Other techniques are to obtain a new card and immediately get rid of the security code on the back. Don't carry cards routinely, take out the minimum cash and use that for what you need.

Hope this helps.

Leave your bank card in a relatives or friends house and leave it there for the weekend, pretend you dropped it. Pick it up Monday after the weekend urges have gone!! Try it!!

I might be too late!!! if you was anything like me I was waiting for 12 bells to strike and my money to clear and an hour later I was planning how I was going to cover up the s**t I would have just caused in the last hour.

How to stop? I admit and accept I can't gamble anymore hand my money, card and financial control to someone else. Self excluded from all sites and put blocking software in place

I have done all the above and i went out for a beer tonight, on last months wages. This months wages have not been touched yet

It can be beaten you just have to want it more than you want to have a bet.

Hi Argie100.

Yes you must take away this fear of payday which should be a day of contentment. The ways to do that are close family support managing your money and proper blocks of everything you might be tempted by when stressed bored or depressed.

I dont know if you live with someone but living on a managed allowance is very helpful. It gives you time to build up your mind with counselling

Discuss it with people close if you can. If there is anything you ever think you might try you must block it. you must step up your guard there. Really there is a touch if negativity creeping in there and you will have to block from them all if necessary. I think one phone call can block you from all bookies and their online operations. Theres advice on other threads about that.

So if you think about say a sports site you are going to have to put in the effort blocking from them. Do it with pride....you know....Im..... and I dont want to gamble with you ever again....give them the basic details they require. These sites need to know that you want to be permanently self excluded. You dont want to give them another penny of your money so be positive and proactive in your defense against them

It might be an idea having a chat with your bank and opening a non card savings account. I didnt find my bank helpful with reducing cash withdrawal limits but a savings account may help and the money could be transfered automatically from your main account. Even cutting up your cards may be necessary

Im worried that you have no close help so you need to do something to really break the time money location triangle. The blocks must be there on all sites that you can possibly think off. Your computer must have a gambling site blocker on it.

Can you not find anybody to help manage your money as this is extremely important. Can your parents or a friend help?

Best wishes from everyone on the forum
