- - --- - Hoping this may help new/existing members ; but thought it would be a good idea to list out practical steps to stop gambling. Won’t be the end of the story, as will need to address “why” you gamble - but stopping is the first step :-
- self exclude from bookies/casinos
- put a blocker on your phone
- contact your ISP to limit websites through wifi
- hand over cards to a responsible person
- only take as much money as you need
- order new cards and scratch off the 3 digit security code
- give someone else access to your bank accounts
- tell someone and share
- stay active and build connections on gamcare
- strongly consider GA/counselling
These are just starters for 10 - if you add any more below I’ll add to the list.
Stay safe everyone
Breaking the gambling (Time-Money-Location) triangle was vital for me but as your so rightly point out, my recovery has come from mental support including the GA program.
Downgrade your bank account if you gamble online...Barclays do a basic cashcard only account & I believe others do too
I also found removing the cash withdrawal facility on my credit card was good (Barclays also do this)...I gambled in the shops & this meant I could keep a card on me for food/petrol etc but I couldn’t use it to gamble (don’t know if things have changed as it’s been a while since I’ve been in a bookies)
