I'm a 20 year old student, wouldn't really say I have a gambling problem, it's not really a problem when you win as often as I do. I've just been betting on sports trying to get a bit more spending money I can use for a holiday and going out
I had been gambling high stakes on low risk bets to get a decent reward until I lost a major bet a couple weeks ago
I used the last 77 in my account and managed to turn it into 1,200 (pretty impressive right?) but since lost that full amount just as I was readying to withdraw. Overall I must have lost around 2,000
Now I have zero pence to my name and would probably rather commit then tell my parents i've lost 2,000 and cant even afford to take my final year at uni. On the bright side I paid 2 months gym membership upfront already
The worst part is, having lost this money tonight, I don't even feel bad. I feel I don't value money at all and never have. Which may explain why I waste most of it on alcohol and never save any. I still feel I can make it back even be it through betting or another means
Anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do? Anyone want to lend me a tenner? I don't necessarily need to go on these 'no gambling' strikes because I enjoy gambling and d know how to do it in moderation...I understand I went a bit far on this occasion but just couldnt really see myself losing
Hi Joocey,
Welcome to the Forum.
Even if you don't consider yourself to have a gambling problem and you won't be able to get "a tenner" from anyone here either, you have taken the step to post on a help forum in the "overcoming problem gambling section".
As half-life said, there is much you can do to start helping yourself, if you want to make changes, continue your studies and test how it is to live a more grown up and responsible life.
Keep thinking this through for yourself. You have just tasted what it's like to feel out of control with gambling. It won't go away by itself. But you can change course!
Maybe take a look at our big deal webpage, too.
Kind wishes
Gabriele
This story just highlights how winning is the worst thing that can happen to you. Your stakes get bigger, your ego gets bigger and when you lose - as you will - the chase starts to get it all back and have that same feeling again.
Stop now while your 20 and not spend the following X number of years permanently short of cash and lying to everyone you know.
Hey Joccey, ive only found this site in the last week so am only just reading these stories, but yours is almost a mirror of mine!
I have only really began to acknowledge i have a problem in the last year because of the ridiculous amount of money ive lost, but I still keep thinking im not too bad, as like you said I enjoy it & always think i can make it back up. I also do a lot of the short odd bets and on numerous occasions have built up pretty big pots, but just before i am about to cash in, i lose it all & lose loads more chasing my loss.
Also exactly like you said, the strange thing is, i feel annoyed at first, but then its like i dont really care!
Currently the only way i can see my properly stopping is i need to get a good win & cash out and that will maybe satisfy me, but then again it might not!
im gonna put my story up now in a post if you want to take a read.
When you start being less concerned about the losses, it is because you have learnt how to deal with them in your own mind. Making excuses for yourself usually.
A dangerous situation.
I like you have had systems and bet on odds on and good runs and Big wins and the losses are far more damaging over the years to come with the mood changes the good wins "arrogance " and the losses " nasty and snappy with the burden of the hidden secret " then the lies and stealing the divorces , family break up and depression and self delusion simple Gambling is Evil .
Joocey I was like you when I was 20. I'm now 31 and still struggle. I'm back here again because I know I need help, and deep down you know you need it too... you wouldn't have posted here otherwise.
Save yourself 11 years of future grief and keep posting here, I guarantee it will be the best thing you could do right now.
Tell the folks everything, they are your family and they love you unconditionally.
