Hi Mix
Is it possible your acquaintance is struggling with gambling himself? Even if that's not the case, I agree with Sam. Don't get drawn because it won't do you any good and you need to concentrate on you and your recovery.
Thank you all for your comments. To be honest, although I gave this chap short shift, I didn't make too much of a fuss. As you all rightly say, there are always going to be ignorants out there, who simply don't understand, and the best thing is to ignore them.
So, yes, Sam, I'll just smile next time and just say "That's your opinion, I respect that" or similar (although I totally disagree with both his opinion and manner). We must keep our heads held high.
Lethe, as it happens he does go on machines from time to time. So may be harbouring a secret addiction himself! However, whatever the case, you are dead right - I won't get drawn in. We are all fighting very individual recoveries, using tools and help such as our group to keep us strong.
Jayd, you've echoed what Sam and Lethe both said - you're right, ignore 'em.
I will now heed the advice of a wise man who said: "Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience...."
How true...

Hi everyone still fighting the good fight. Downgraded my phone to basic model so access to tinternet is limited so can't get on as often as I like. Feeling strong, started exercising again as its not just the mental side gambling affects, I binge eat on rubbish after a losing streak & drink far too much trying to forget the losses. Get busy living or get busy dying, I'm choosing life. Have a great, gamble free Xmas everyone.
This evening i feel humbled.
Our kids sat me and Mrs Bal down at the dining room table, lit some candles, put some music on and cooked us the most gorgeous 3 course meal with wine and coffee.
I feel honoured x

And we've hit a week without gambling! That's amazing stuff, and it's clear we're serious about this challenge. Let's enter this Christmas week with the best week of all, gambling free.
For once, we're not choosing to beat ourselves up. For once, we are all realising there is no excuse for what we've been doing and as the saying goes ... you reap what you sow. KEEP GOING - you're doing great; we're doing great!
As spud put it, with the quote from that great film, the Shawshank Redemption: "Get busy livin', or get busy dyin' ". It really is as simple as that.
*** JOKE OF THE DAY *** A bloke goes to the doctors and says: "Help me Doctor, I've got a cricket ball up my b*m!". The doctor asks: "Hows that?" The bloke replies: "Don't YOU start..." 🙂

P.S. Lovely post Bal, just what we like to read 🙂

Good evening all, checking in on another day gambling free, hey!!
Mixer, I am enjoying, sort of, your joke of the day. What about setting up a rota so that the next person on your list has to post a joke, and the next person on the list the day after etc. If they can't think of a joke they could perhaps post an inspiring quote for the day.
Another day free, but with urges . My brain thinks it can get back the money it has spent in the next sale? .. Why do gamblers think that they can get something for nothing?
Sorry KP I have just seen that you suggested this earlier but no-one has taken you up on it. Here is my attempt. My wife said to me that s*x is always better on holiday, that wasn't a very nice postcard to receive.
Hi all, checking on for day 25 GF for me. So nice with payday having just been - been in town with my nieces and nephew and my other sister buying presents etc. The kids are gorgeous we always talk often about my sis xx hate Xmas time without her, Xmas's will never really be the same again but onwards and upwards as she would say xx
Lol 're joke 🙂 that tickled me
An octogenarian signing in to confirm yesterday was gamble free 🙂
Things have started to really turn around, my focus is now on making what money I have work.
I have done a fair degree of soul searching over these last 80 days and whilst i have had little or no inclination to gamble, i know there are deeper issues to address post Christmas.
I want to be the person i know i am but has been hidden away for so long, to be honest, respected/respectful and to contribute on all levels.
I am realising i need to shed a skin, and leave some old ways and people behind in order to achieve this.
This is happening slowly but some really in close dont appear to want me to change.....however i am in control and the choice is mine.
