Good evening everyone and thank you for checking in and keeeping your diaries up to date. Sadly I've heard not fro a few of us and, as I've previously inferred, I will need to 'rest' you from the group. But drop us a line if you'd like to continue. We'll miss you!
May I introduce Athena, our latest member. I've put you on Day 33, as you stated you've been GF for 2017. Please let me know if that needs changing. A very warm welcome to you!
***CONGRATULATIONS *** to Gm88 who has crossed his personal nifty 50 day threshold. One half done; let's see what you've got for the other!
So, how are we getting on. Well, this is a tough time of year; still in deep midwinter and if you have been GF for any length of time, probably have a little or lot of cash spare. Valentine's Day is a tough time too. This gambling disease really takes it out of our partners, doesn't it. In fact, sadly, it sometimes costs us relationships. It's cost me big time in the past. But, chin up, we are where we are and we're not going to fall back on the easy gambling option, are we. We look back - but don't stare. The fact is, our future is always brighter gambling free than the alternative. That's a fact. So let's look forward. To tomorrow, an enjoyable day, another day on this planet, reminding us how fundamentally wonderful it is to be alive, and even more so because we're gambling free and have the choice, in this free country, to be gambling free; free to put two fingers up to the gambing!
*** JOKE OF THE DAY *** - celebrating Yorkshire - God's own county!
Police have just released details of a new drug craze
that is being carried out in Yorkshire nightclubs.
Apparently, Yorkshire club goers have started
injecting Ecstasy just above their front teeth.
Police say the dangerous practice is called "e by gum"

Day 6 almost done....another 94 to go on this first step 🙂
*** DISTRACTIONS FROM GAMBLING ***
On the webchat tonight - always a fantastic way to meet fellow recovering gamblers like us - a topic came up, where one of us said that without gambling, there was a bit of a 'gap' in their life. We can all relate to that at times, perhaps; so it got me thinking - what can we do to fill the void, because sometimes it isn't that intuitively obvious. Our minds are sometimes closed to what's really 'out there', what other things we can do.
If you feel like this, here's an idea, and please add any ideas you may have!!!!
How about planning a short break or holiday. It's cheaper than you think, even on the tightest budget! Recovering gamblers like us tend to be excellent money managers always on the lookout for good value (I know, ironic, isn't it). So, here's a way of securing a great value break abroad, via Easyjet. Apologies if you know about this method, below, but you might not! (And, btw, I'm not on commission!). Apologies to everyone who thinks I'm teaching you/everyone how to 'suck eggs'; I'm not; all I'm trying to do is inspire.
I full understand that, in many cases, our addiction has brought with it possibly considerable debt obligations; I am genuinely sensitive to this. It is why I am deliberately aiming for very cheap, but excellent value breaks that will not cost the earth. But I do understand that in some cases this idea may not be possible for you at the moment.
1. Google "Easyjet Holidays", and click on the obvious website it brings up
2. In the "Flying From' field, type in the nearest airport to you.
3. In the "Destination' field, click on the orange icon to the right of where you type in a destination and select as many places as you fancy ... tick them all, is my advice... go for it!
4. Then deliberately select a wide range of dates; say, from today to the end of October 2017. I know you might be personally restricted to when you can go, but bear with me.
5. Slide the "Staying for X nights" bar at the bottom of the page to the number of nights you fancy, say 3 for now....
6. Then click the "Search for Holidays" button.
7. Sort by "Price - Lowest first" and prepare to be amazed!!!!
For an example, I keyed in holidays from Gatwick to 20 destinations and the cheapest, including flights, was £67 for 3 nights in the Algarve, Portugal from the 3rd-6th March! £134 for two, accomodation and flights! P.S. The Algarve is great!
Now, cheapest is not always the bestest but you can always check on Tripadvisor if you're not sure. And play around with the settings; consider when you can go away, specialfic locations, flight times, changing the number of nights etc. Another night might only be a few quid more. Don't be afraid to find somewhere new. And don't forget, travelling costs to get to the airport can be reduced by parking your car in a drive, try justpark dot com. If you get a train, by a railcard and also buy tickets up to 3 months in advance to save loads.
And at the other end, for cabs etc. look on the internet - it will be cheaper than Easyjet, although Easyjet will be cheaper for car hire. (for example, using my Algarve example, above, use yellowfish taxis and get a door-to-door airport -> hotel -> airport service for 42 euros return, about £35!). And with short breaks, you don't need to take a suitcase, do you, just a smaller trolley that will cost you £0 to take on board... and children under 16 cost £13 LESS for one leg of the journey!!
I hope this may inspire you to try something different or consider something different if this is your kind of thing. If so, happy exploring - something healthy and interesting to get addicted to instead of gambling!

Thank you everyone for checking in, and also your kind comments. You know, just looking at the stats above it can been seen there are some serious GF days being racked up - you're doing great. It matters - you know it, we all know it.
And if you do have moments of weakness, as many of us, including me, then picture this.
Imagine you are watching yourself having a bet. Picture the eyes of the 'you' that's watching you have a bet. Are those eyes sad, are those eyes teary?
Now picture those eyes watching you walk away before any bet was placed... how do those eyes look? Relaxed, happier, smiling eyes? They're the eyes we want to see 🙂
By the way ... I'm off for a few days and won't be able to update the Rollcall statistics until I'm back. I'm genuinely sorry about that but promise I'll update everything on Saturday. I'll still be able to post though.
Take care everyone 🙂
*** JOKE OF THE DAY ***
A plane passed through a severe storm. The turbulence was awful, and things went
from bad to worse when one wing was struck by lightning.
One woman lost it completely.
She stood up in the front of the plane and screamed, 'I'm too young to die,' she cried.
Then she yelled, ' ;If I'm going to die, I want my last minutes on earth to be
memorable! Is there anyone on this plane who can make me feel like a WOMAN?'
For a moment, there was silence. Everyone stared at the desperate woman in the
front of the plane. Then the man from Australia stood up in the rear of the plane.
He was handsome, tall, well built, with dark brown hair and hazel eyes.
Slowly, he started to walk up the aisle, unbuttoning his shirt as he went,
one button at a time.
No one moved. He removed his shirt. Muscles rippled across his chest.
She gasped...
Then, he spoke...
'Iron this for us luv!'

Good evening all day 67 GF.
I have found that the time I used to spend gambling online has been taken up by playing on-line card games, (not poker, I hasten to add!). There are a number of online games where you can play for free, I also play backgammon and on occasions chess. It was the free time when I was on my own at home that was the problem for me and I find the above as enjoyable and certainly a lot cheaper.
