We welcome two new members - Our Lady and Smorgan. Great you could join us, and let's see what you've got. It's great to have you aboard!
As you'll see from the stats above, we've had a couple of wobbles, and although I call them wobbles - or blips - we all know that they can be siesmic for two reasons. One, they could cost us in £s dearly, and two, they could trigger further wobbles as we try to chase the (inevitable) losses. We have to be strong, everyone, especially at this time of the month, or any time there's a bit of cash in our pockets. Wobbles happen; in the past, I've had many. But let's see if we can see February out. If you think you can, you will.
Every day we say to ourselves: Today, I'm NOT going to gamble, no matter WHAT. If yo're feeling weak one day, HOLD OFF gambling and dive on to the webchat. It's open every evening, and some weekdays. Hold off till then. If you work nights, dive onto the NetLine and chat 1-2-1 with a Gamcare advisor, and this applies if you can't make webchat for whatever reason. We have no excuses not to do this small thing when we feel weak!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have the tools to keep this monster at bay. Do we really have to reach rock bottom to stop? NO.
And if you have reached rock bottom, then there's only one way to go, and that's up. And the human brain - an amazing peice of machinery - will work for us and make it so. We're in charge, we can direct our brains. Let's do it!
*** ANNOUNCEMENT ***
I am away for a week, on an intensive work-related course. Unfortuantely, I won't have the IT kit I need to update our rollcall statistics until next Friday night. I'll still pop on here from time to time, and webchat. I just like to keep you updated!
*** JOKE OF THE DAY ***
- A petrol station owner in Ireland was trying to increase his sales, so he put up a sign that read, 'Free S*x with Fill-Up.'
Murphy pulled in, filled his tank and asked for his free s*x.
The owner told him to pick a number from 1 to 10.
If he guessed correctly, he would get his free s*x.
Murphy guessed 8, and the proprietor said, 'You were close.
The number was 7. Sorry. No s*x this time.'
A week later, Murphy, along with his friend Mick, pulled in for another fill-up. Again he asked for his free s*x.
The proprietor again gave him the same story, and asked him to guess the correct number.
Murphy guessed 2. The proprietor said, 'Sorry, it was 3.
You were close, but no free s*x this time.'
As they were driving away, Mick said to Murphy,
'I think that game is rigged and he doesn't really
give away free s*x at all.'
Murphy replied, 'No it's genuine enough Mick.
My wife won twice last week!"
Well done everyone. keep up the roll call. its not easy sometimes with this illness but together we stand a chance.
40 days today and a real struggle, had a phone call about free tickets for Cheltenham festival. Got me self looking at racing and got so tempted and been on my mind all day. Turned tickets down as no I can not trust my self yet around booze and my fav/life ruining horse racing gambling addiction. Been a difficult day but made it thru. Hope you are all fighting hard also. Good luck
150 Not out.

52 Days GF
Keep strong everyone - I've just finished a course and bloody horrible exam that I may or may not pass - but ... "no-ones died" and if I don't pass it's not the end of the world. I am glad that I only took £90 with me for the week - of which I've got £22 left. Even I realise I can't leave myself skint miles from home! So, cannot even be tempted to gamble my contingency.
It's been tough, personally, and doesn't get easier even though I'm approaching 100 days - why is that?!??!
But ... holding and in a much better financial position. To avoid tempation in the next few days, I'm paying some of next year's council tax in advance. Anything to get the money out of my account - last time I stopped gambling, I couldn't handle a 'surplus' of ready money.
Sorry to ramble but I'm sure you can resonate! I'll be home later with a full rollcall.
Do.. let's keep supporting each other, as it helps ourselves too 🙂
Let's keep strong (no matter what..!) 🙂
50 days today! Ghastly week as my sister was diagnosed with a brain tumour but still no desire to gamble.

*** ROLLCALL OF SUCCESS ***
SkyBlueblue, you've hit 150 days GF, and Panders, the 50 day milestone. Markman, you also hit the big 50 a couple of days back. Serious totals that deserve serious recognition and respect from all of us, your recovering CG peers, group members and friends. We all collectively congratulatate you and support you as, one day at a time, you continue on this positive, life-affirming course.
(I would like to add, panders, that I was saddened to hear the very sad news about your sister and wish her all the very, very best, mate.)
*** WELCOME *** mccawpa, welcome aboard our friendly, supportive group and having passed 7 days GF, look forward to learning more about you as we actively strive towards being GF, one day at a time!
Thank you for your updates and keeping your diaries updated, it all helps me keep the stats, and they are looking good. Some serious numbers are building, and even if you have had a wobble, if you're straight back 'in the saddle' it builds up so much more extra resolve for the next time... that's the honest, spirit and character that epitomises what we can do.
I've been away for a few days, hence why there's been a 'bumper' update of the GF days - 6 added to every total!
Clarkey, really glad you're keeping strong despite the tempation; KatieCoo, going great guns too, Wardle, fully understand and respect why you've been away, mate, and know you're keeping strong for you, and your loved ones.
It's a thing, this life. We never know might might happen to us, or our loved ones, that can suddenly change everything. Turn everything on its head. Sometimes it might make us think - what the hell, and make as weak and have a gambling 'blip'. We all need our escapism, somewhere to run to at times, but we need to resist as much as we can to take to the gambling path. Because all it does is make a bad situation worse. Yet - and I know from bitter experience, as we can all relate, we can make it easy to return if we decide to. However, let's not. Let's give ourselves the break we deserve. We're valued and we're needed; we're loved and we have a lot to give.
For today, let's not gamble.
*** JOKE OF THE DAY ***
Husband wakes up in the night to find his wife standing over him
with a rolling pin.
Bosh! she whacks him over the head with it
"What was that for?"
"That's for being a lousy lover!" she says and gets into bed, pulling
the sheets over her head and turning her back to him.
A few minutes later she wakes up to see her husband standing over
her with the rolling pin.
Bosh! He gives her one back
"What was that for?" she says, rubbing her head.
"That's for knowing the difference!"
WCAWW!
Checking in. Day 12.
Take care all and so will I.
Our Lady.
Correction - Day 13!
Our Lady.
Checking in before I start work day 90. Good luck and well done everyone
I'd love to join this if possible? I'm on Day 8.
Checking in on day 28. Just having a read through GA's 'towards the first 90 days' book again to keep me focused.
Affected by gambling?
