*** ROLLCALL OF SUCCESS *** - Wardal, congratulations on hitting 100 days GF! A fine achievement and we warmly congratulate you.
*** WELCOME *** to Kirsty who has asked to join our merry band. Of course! We all welcome you most warmly 🙂
Good evening everyone and thank you for continuing to update your diaries or check in here. One thing I've learned since coming here to the Gamcare forums and websites is one over-riding realisation - we're all fantastic people desperate to break free of our gambling straightjackets. I've learned so much about my fellow CGs and about myself, too.
I am not going to pretend for a moment that I find being GF easy and in fact have been sorely tempted on several occasions. I have tried many times before to stop and usually buckled at the 60-70 day mark, at the point when I had money again and the temptation to have a 'small reward' was just too powerful. So, believe me, I am very understanding of all this personally.
When I look back at the early days of this challenge, I can see I was so 'gung ho' - let's go for it everybody, let's not buckle ,,, but, of course, it happens. I know only too well. But, the thing is, I've noticed that when some of us do buckle the response is more considered, more thoughtful, and I honestly believe a new layer of resolve is added. I have the fullest respect of anyone who buckles and discloses it - and this is heartfelt. You might say to yourself - "I've buckled, I've failed" but the truth is - yes, whilst you have had a blip, life is all about how we respond to adversity. If we respond constructively, determindely, better - then that's a good thing, right?
Maybe the relapse is just the wake-up call, the 'dress rehearsal', for taking the steps to make an even BETTER go of it next time.
Me? I happen not to have gambled for 98 days. I am determined to hit the 100 but expressly without fanfare because I find every day difficult. I've realised that this is, for many, and me included, a one-day-at-a-time thing. I never look ahead more than a day, to be honest. That will do. Quietly, heads down, and with determination we all keep going. If we fall, we get up again.
Spud, as you have requested, I have taken you off our challenge. But you're sincerely wlecome back anytime mate. Just drop us a line, and, without fuss, you be back amongst us. You're part of the team and we'll miss you.
*** JOKE OF THE DAY ***
How to get on in life, and why sharing information might be a good thing. Here's Lesson 1:
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower,
when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs
downstairs.
When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour.
Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you £800 to drop that towel..'
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked
in front of Bob.
After a few seconds, a smiling Bob hands her £800 and leaves.
The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.
When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'
'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies.
'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the £800 he owes me?'
Moral of the story
If you share information with yoour loved ones in good time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure!
WCAWW!
