Woooohooo!!! This is so fantastic. However....beware!! Still cannot let our guard down. The online casinos will be losing lots of money from this...that is for definate. I would imagine that the majority of their money comes from compulsive addicted gamblers...not from people who are in control and can walk away after a flutter.Which leads me to think...that although they will comply with GAMSTOP, there will now find other ways to get us! I dont know how.. or what new tactics will be used...but one thing is for certain, these casinos are in business to make money. And once there profits start to dwindle as less comulsive gamblers available to feed their profits...they will find a way to close that short fall...The thought scares me!! Brilliant news though...am so happy, wish this was availabe years ago!

Same valdab so happy this is now out there, I've just excluded for 5 years. I think there will be no way around it mate as the gambling comission would close them down for not complying. Time will tell I suppose but tonight I finally feel free

Can I confirm a couple of things?

1)Presumably they have to do a identity check using a credit check, this won't impact my credit rating? (Surprisingly quite good compared to 6/7 years ago!)

2)They ask for my address for validation, but do they send any mail in the post e.g. confirmation you've signed up or just email? I live in a shared house so don't really want others to potentially know about my gambling issues

I haven't actually played online since about 2008/2009, but might as well sign up for 5 years!

They ask a few questions so they know it's you, like have you taken a phone contract out in the last year with other options so their software must somehow be linked up to your purchase activity, I was also asked with a few options if I've taken out a credit card. No bank details were given. You do however have to keep them up to date if you change address or name and give them all the email address you use so I'm guessing the software blocks your name, dob, and address so it don't need bank details.

I read this forum and unfortunately I see that aren’t so many who used gamstop once it was online. Shame on us, thos who scream for help and promise to change but don’t want to actually do one of the most important step: to self exclude from this poison. Here we have the most amazing tool our society provided ever and we don’t even use it. Gamstop servers should be crashing from so many request but no, our fellow CG doesn’t want to lose the oportunity of relapsing on god-knows-what-slot-roulette-poker-site. This week when I joined gamstop, it was the happiest thing for me in decades.

SLS - That's an interesting comment. But I'd like to know. How do you know that Gamstop isn't in demand; is it because the servers "should be crashing" or do you have genuine inside info? We need to be careful not to unfairly denigrate others. How do you know that people here aren't using this new service? And have you yourself joined the other services (to exclude from land-based casinos, bookies, arcades and bingo clubs - it's all realted, after all). We need to be careful before casting the first stone.

That said, you are doing the right thing here, as is anyone joining Gamstop and other blocking sites, and wish you all the very best.

I have tried numerous times in the last few days to join...but for some reason it wont accept my mobile no. or my postcode. I have contacted the site and we have had several emails back and forth but it still wont accept these details. I got another email this morning asking me to phone them so that they can do the entry manaully for me. Not sure why this is happening...early glitches in the program I guess.

I agree, valdab.

I suspect there are gliches as the service goes into (unofficial) beta live testing. By phone is the best way until these wrinkles are ironed out; that's what I did.

Mixer, on how many personal journals, threads here did you read: “ gamstop is live. I am registered! Yupppyyyy!!! “? Close to none. I read them daily. This is the one thing a CG to be proud with: i’ve self excluded from almost all evil!

SLS - Just because a dog didn't bark in the night doesn't mean there isn't a dog, if you get my famous Sherlock reference.

If you dont, then just because people haven't proclaimed their Gamstop membership doesn't mean to say they haven't taken action.

It's the log in our own eyes we need to concern ourselves with, SLS, not the speck in others, if this biblical reference makes more sense.

You've joined, and assume taking other blocking activity to minimise the chances of a relapse. That's good, SLS; let's celebrate, build on this, and positively encourage others.

All the best,

Mixer
