Good Morning Everyone,

In 2012 NT and then Freda moderated a bet free thread for the whole calendar year. A massive commitment from them and a massive challenge taken on by all those who put their name forward. That thread ends tomorrow and it's well worth a look. The number of names on page 1 shows it CAN be done.

On January 1st the new thread begins. I have copied the rules set by NT last year as a bet free 2013 means just that.

1. Not a single penny spent in any bookmakers.

2. Not a single penny spent on fruit machines.

3. Not a single penny spent on any form of online gambling.

4. Not a single penny spent on scratchcards or on any form of lottery. This includes syndicates.

The 'Challenge' threads have on the whole been a great success so far. What I always like to make clear though is these are not competitions they are just offered as an additional focus. The camaraderie is great and I feel people really do get a good feeling being part of them. However, it is simply a take it or leave it thing.

What I suggest for this thread is it remains open for the whole year. The main reason for this is many people will adopt the philosophy of one day at a time which clearly works. Committing to a whole year may be over committing.

However, providing people meet the prerequisite of not gambling at all in 2013 they can be added to the list at a later date. So, if you get to May and think ok I feel I am ready to look further ahead then you can join the list then as long as you haven't gambled in 2013 to that point. The whole point is to provide help and focus and not pressure. Hopefully this will assist.

My commitment is to moderate this thread in 2013 and in addition offer alternative 'Challenge' threads throughout the year. This I hope will help new people to the site as the year progresses. The first of those threads will begin on Tuesday and details will be available very shortly.

Last year the check ins for this thread were rolling. A new date was set after a check in. So, I suggest the same format but have check in weekends for added flexibility. Not everyone logs on everyday.

First check in between Friday 11th and Sunday 13th January.

Ok this is now live so feel free to put your names forward.

Hi Flagg,

Sign me up please I am going to give this another go. I have failed the last two challenges but each one has given me strength and has helped me bounce back. I am convinced without the help of your threads I would not have got to where I currently am at 29 days gamble free. They really show what can be done in a supportive and non-judgemental context.

You my man are a credit to this site and I can't wait to step forward and take on 2013 in your company I feel honoured.

I am going to give this my best shot, bring it on.
