I haven't placed a single bet for 23 days, I feel amazing for it. I have been so down recently, but slowly counting the days as they tick by has helped me.

I'm not silly however, I know in my head the hardest day is tomorrow. The dreaded pay day! I have money spare every month, this is where the temptation always is and always will be. I am determined to do anything and everything to keep myself busy over the coming days and take my mind off even the possibility. It helps that I would largely bet on football and the season is over, but I still need to be hard on myself.

I welcome comments/conversations/tips! I'd like to share experiences and help others too!

Any tips on reading material?

Any tips on what to do when you live so close to a bookies?

Thanks, DK

Hi DK, welcome to the forum 🙂

The best tip I can give for payday is to hand over your finances...I surrendered bank cards (multiple), banking log ons (multiple) & stopped carrying cash but giving someone else access to your credit reports is another good idea.

As for comments/tips & sharing experiences, the site is a great place to start but also it’s worth looking @ your closest GA meeting...Paying it forwards is an important part of recovery that can be done in person @ a meeting.

Russell Brand’s “Recovery” is my go to recommendation because it is the full works but Mixer has a sticky thread that you may also find useful.

Self excluding from your local haunts is a good idea & you can do this through

Congratulations on your 1st 23 days, I look forward to your oncoming posts sharing how you successfully overcame your 1st payday - ODAAT

Hi DK, I was in your exact same position when I told my partner about my problem. I am new to this site too so I hope we can both beat this thing and take control. Always here if you want to talk bud.
