Hi yep happy to be GF - even went to a meeting! That's another story. Working on health problems one day at at a time....just like the gambling. Had to go into the city centre yesterday and wow it is amazing how many bookies you walk past.....dozens! Zero temptation though.

Well it was a few miles from Cardiff. I didn't feel it was very friendly but quite clique. A few people who hadn't gambled for like 20 years with war stories still to tell. It was quite busy - maybe 15 people and only one guy made an effort to talk to me. I didn't say something but I did listen. I don't think that is the meeting for me and it was quite inconvenient to get to but now that I have been to one I think I will give the one in Cardiff City Centre a try. I just thought the people would be more welcoming especially as I think it was obvious I was very nervous 🙁

Haven't posted much recently as have been quite unwell but starting to feel better now. I have no urges to gamble and am still incorporating some 12 step principles into my recovery as well as listening and learning from others wiser than me and taking it one day at a time. I'm still convinced that (again just my view) that dwelling on the money lost will not help an individual's recovery. Yes, guilt and shame are appropriate if you have stolen, lied, cheated, wiped out the joint account etc. but dwelling on the £20/£200/£2,000 you had on Wales to beat Portugal is pointless. The money is gone and it aint coming back. I think the problem is in the mind and this is why I am now more open to the 12 steps and GA meetings - haha despite the last one!

Morning Phil. Good to see that you're starting to feel in better health and great to hear that you're doing well in your recovery. I totally agree that it's not about the money and all about our mind. It's helpful to know that GA and the 12 steps are proving useful to you. I've not been to a meeting, but I've never said never!

Wishing you well as you keep stepping forward. LifeBegins x

Just for today: A) I will keep all my barriers in place B) I will walk past bookies with my head held high C) I will not tell myself I will never gamble ever again as I think that creates unnecessary pressure and some self self-deceit (just my view) D) I will continue to incorporate some of the 12 steps E) I will continue my jouney one day at a time.

Had a nice bike ride yesterday then met my friend in a pub in the city centre for a pint in a pub I'd never been in before. When we went outside I realised it was opposite one of Frederick's (you know) shops. Drank the pint quickly because I felt a certain amount of fear. I was distracted by the incident and wasn't concentrating and got clipped by a taxi. Result? One seriously scratched, bruised, adraised face and fractured nose. I look a right mess. Could have been worse though.
