No gambling

got some big bills on the horizon, and gambling has crossed my mind. Totally wrong, I know. I need to sit down and go through my finances, I'm not struggling at the moment (although I still have £8k debt left over from last year), but I can't afford to have any less than I have without things getting a little awkward. If the scale is 0=bankrupt, 100= debt free, I'm currently on 46 and a third.

Milkman.

I would like to thankyou for bringing a reality to recovery through Blondie's thread.

Truthfully we are all one bet from further destruction.

The bottom line, todays choice is the vital one.

Tomorrow never comes.

Honoured.

Duncs stepping forward never back.

Are you having any urges and, if so, how are you dealing with them? Are you doing anything to fill the gambling void?

Update

thanks for the reply, Blondie. I'm reading most days but rarely posting. Very nice to see your success story, though - well done!

As for me, I dabbled a bit for a couple of months (Nov / Dec), had a biggish win, rested a while, dabbled again in Feb, lost all but £2k, and stopped again. The £2k never existed as cash in pocket, since it went immediately to servicing debts. I'm lucky I pulled out ahead, but I just can't afford to lose it but my debts - while manageable - are finely balanced, and a big hit would give me serious problems. Not ready to do that again, 2 v young kids means lots of unexpected outgoings.

So, no day counting now - I do the lottery occasionally like I always have, but other than that I'm in one of my 'controlled' phases at the moment.

will keep reading; hope some of my old buddies are still around.

Mm

Hi milkman,

Stay 'controlled', don't get drawn in! Winning is all well and good, but we all know that the odds will catch up with you eventually and gambling won't have a happy ending. Look after yourself and you'll be looking after your family at the same time.

All the best,

Sirg

Hi Sirg,

Of course you're right. I know myself well enough to know that I'm reasonably stable at present (whatever THAT means). I'm happy trundling along for now. Can't think too 'big' because I don't think it always helps.

Just out of interest, when was your last bet? I am nearly two weeks gamble-free. Hardly anything compared to my last stint, but slow and steady wins the race.
