Evening all,

Well...

Where do I start 20 years gambling I'm only 35! I'm done- nothing to do with casino FOBT roulette - it's all sports betting! ANY SPORT!

So I stopped betting 4 days ago, Thursday evening I knew I was it was my last ... However as my title goes I knew when I placed the bet it would be for one last time .... - if i don't succeed in giving up this time I won't be returing to GamCare as it clearly isn't working ... And I need to try something else

Not going into the reasons why I need to stop at this stage but I'm committed, I'm 100% In this! All will come clear soon the desire, the drive, the need to give up its all there! I won't post a lot but I will appreciate all input I receive and achkowledge all responses. Accompany me on this journey if you wish if not watch from the sidelines ... Hold on tight it's gonna be rocky it's gonna be uncomfortable strap yourselves in we are on a journey but I know I KNOW ... The best is yet to come

Hi kristhjkl,

Well done for your post, and thanks for sharing your story with us here in the forum.

Gambling for 20 years is a long time, and I’m glad this time you feel determined to do what it takes to overcome your problematic gambling.

Posting here helps you to get gambling stuff off your chest, and also get the support and encouragement you need to work through your gambling problem from fellow forum members and staff as well.

Coming to the forum is definitely a step in the right direction if you’re searching for a way to help you to stop gambling. Try and take it a step at a time.

Gamcare provides advice on strategies to help you to overcome your gambling problem, and we can refer one to 12 sessions of free counselling in case that would help them to stop.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and find out what other options of support are available to you.

Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

My best wishes to you on this journey to recovery, and please post as often as you can.

Kind regards,

Beatrice

Well 12 days GF - feeling down and depressed but no real urges ... Reading through other diaries I see so many simaliarites- been thinking a lot about what motivators really make you place that bet when you really know you shouldn't- gets a little deep at times .. Is it literally the thrill, money, beating the system, doing summit you shouldn't... Maybe all of them

Will be powering in to week three over the weekend looking forward to that!
