Hello diary, hello forum.

I was a hopeless addict, I'm truly ashamed at some of my past behaviour. I lived a horrible life for too many years and alienated myself from friends and family which ultimately led to mental health issues and a twisted view of other people and of the world.

But my past mistakes are not me. I am the man who has learnt from those incredible mistakes and who now lives my life by one simple rule.

"Live honestly, harm no man and render to each his due"

For me Gambling gets in the way of life.I can choose one or the other but not both. The choice is simple.

I once read a post on this forum to "give recovery even half the time and attention you have gambling and see what happens"

My life is unrecognisable to what it was 18months ago. I'm saying this to show people it's possible. I have many people who contributed to that change.

Asking for help is a sign of strength. Huge strength.

If you are stuck in that never ending gambling cycle that we all know so well and want your life to change believe me the power is in you.

You just have to want it more than you want that next bet, believe in yourself, live honestly and watch the magic happen.

Admit your shortcomings and accept all the help on offer.

Best wishes to anyone finding it really tough at the minute and also to my old friends on here. I will be in touch. Thank you all.

John, gambling addict in recovery since 02/04/14

Fantastic post John, so pleased to see you marching on with your head held high, and so it should be, you are doing something amazing, simply changing your life for the better.

Thanks for popping by, and thanks for your positive post on your diary.

Take care and keep moving forwards in the real world.

Ooo spooky you should drop by when you did, I was only thinking of you that morning & wondering how you were getting on with your magic cape! Lost it's impetuous now but next time I think it, I will just fly by with a Hi anyway! Thank you for your kind words although I fear lately I have not been as supportive as I could be. I am more settled now than I ever have been & I echo your post, recovery is life, let's all get on & live it - ODAAT
