Recently an online gambling company got fined for not doing enough to protect problem gamblers from opening new accounts and to contine gambling, I was one of those people. I excluded from this site but I was able to open a new account using the same bank details, name and address but just using a different email address and then afrer deposits and losses they then closed my account and said I am not due a refund and copy and pasted the terms and conditions. I emailed them last week giving them the different email address I signed up with and stated my case to them, I got an email from them today saying that I will get the £550 I deposited while self excluded back which I'm over the moon with and here's hoping other casinos are forced to do the same. If you done this then email them now as you may be due a slice of the money that has been set aside to refund players that were allowed to continue to gamble while excluded!!
Hi Sidney,
There is no doubt indeed that this is good news, and a deserved 'big kick in the shin' for the company in question, whose name I believe is a numerical one, numbered slightly less than 889.
Your advice to anyone who was self-excluded from this particular company to get a refund, by e-mail, is sound, and anyone having problems getting the refund they're due should perhaps drop a post to this thread; I'm sure Gamcare and the legions of good people on this forums will be able to help advise.
HOWEVER - you're at a pivotal moment here, Sidney. You've just received money you didn't expect - a tidy £550. I know I'm statng the bleedin' obvious but DO NOT gamble this money: it is a gift you didn't expect, "manna from heaven". What a crying shame it would be, in the infancy of your recovery, for you to blow it now. Don't even THINK about using this this to try and atone and win back monies from the past: chasing is futile.
So I implore you, whilst reminding yourself every day: "Just for today, I will not gamble", to prepare yourself for the day for when this money is repaid. Can someone trusted look after it; is there something substantive you can spend it on (like, helping to clear a credit card bill, or towards a 'big ticket' purchase). Don't let it just sit there in your bank account because the devil on your shoulder, a very patient but insidious demon, will keep nudging you.
You know - I know - we all know the score.
You've done a good thing here alerting people about this, but we have to be mindful that travelling back to the gambling arena in order to get the refund might be a temption to some. But writing to them, via e-mail, without logging into the site, would mean you wouldn't actually have to go "there".
Enjoy this blessing Sidney, and it really is a blessing. Please don't let this stroke of good fortune turn sour. Just for today, you won't gamble. Never forget what it's like to enjoy life, and little victories like this make it all the sweeter!
All the best
Mixer
Hi mixer, the money will get lost bringing my overdraft up to balance so I'll never see it anyway, I think I'm exhausted on signing up to casinos as I think I'm excluded from every one. I did however sign up to one last week that was a casino newly opened under a company I had previously excluded from, this was not noticed by myself, I got up to a fairly decent amount and when I withdrew low and behold they only refunded my deposits and not my winnings yet the previous week I done the same under a different casino, I lost what I deposited then i noticed it was a company I had previously excluded from and they kept my deposits so it's a big wake up call for me now in that whatever the outcome win or lose I can never win no matter what.
