Hi gav, just caught up on your diary. I'm delighted for you. Abstaining brings things just not possible while in active addiction as I'm sure you've seen. All the Best to you and your family.

Fellow addict in recovery. John.

Thanks for the posts folks, 315 days now. Lovely 2 weeks off, did loads with the kids had fun. Now back in work and mega mega busy. No thoughts of gambling, watched an interesting programme on bbc1 last night at 9.

Hi Rob, and also thanks for posting. Yes the 2 go hand in hand are a complete nightmare together. I've had so many low days with that combination.

I dont know what made me stop or whats different this time, as i've had countless relaspes in the past, but i finally got to a point 315 days ago where i just thought, I cant do this anymore, it was just no way to live. I am hiding from my problems and not facing up to them.

Things have been so so so much better now i've stopped, trust me it gets better. Dont get me wrong i've still issues with my life especially the drink which is still something i'll need to address, especially when so many slip ups in the past were all related to the booze lowering my willpower.

Sorry i cant get posting on everyones profiles but i need to get out of work and pick the kids up.

If you have a diary Rob i'll post tomorrow as i dont know your story.

Thanks again to Suzanne , Odaat , John and everyone else who 's fighting this illness. I'll post on your diaries tomorrow and i hope all is going well with yourselves.

All the best ,

Gav

336 days and closing in on that 3-4% that makes it a year which is great.

No real temptations infact they are starting to fade which is v good. Our lab pulled up lame over wk end and after vets y day hes done in his other achillies (ruptured) so more surgery and lot of cash to fix! 🙁 Dogs aint cheap, and hes not insured. Were paying off his previous bill from May when he did his other leg in, and still have 2 yrs payments of that to go.

However thru all of this i have had no temptation to gamble which is remarkable as years ago would have given me a reason to go off on a gambling binge to win enough to pay for everything ! yeah right! Also the positives are the vets are happy enough hes ok for surgery which is also a positive, so hopefully after this op he'll be on the mend for a good while !

Apart from that things going ok, busy wee spell in work but manageable and have a week off on September so the bloody weather better change as its been awful this entire summer so far where im from.

Anyway back to work. Keep strong !

Hi gav,

Your poor doggie is going through the mill, They are very much part of the family, and it's horrible to see them unwell,

You are doing fantastic closing in to that one year, and a holiday booked, that you will enjoy, because you are not in the grip of that horrible vile addiction.

As for tricks lol, I learn new ones every day to keep one step ahead, it's tough at times (as you know ) but it is the only way forwards

Stay strong, and I hope your doggie gets 100% well real soon.

Take care

Oh no, poor thing 🙁 Isn't it great though that you have aligned your thinking to know that gambling would definately not bring you the riches you need to fix him!

When you say holiday, you are travelling South a little bit right?

Thanks for my pat on the back Gav, great to see you hot on my heels 🙂 You will get there - ODAAT

351 days! Dog recovering well from the operation, doing v well, back walking on injured leg and got stiches out on Monday vet v happy with progress. Remains on strict diet however much to my labs annoyance!

Couple of weeks to go , really didnt think I could do this for a year, with my history of hiccups! If i can do it anyone can , you;'ve just got to want it enough. Was out in a charity night out last friday in a golf club which had 2 club machines lurking near the male toilets which i've previously played down the years. I didnt even bat an eye lid walking past them, i know that years ago i would have been on them all night only stopping to have a pee or get another pint! Im not saying i've conquered gambling addiction, but im keeping it at bay and am enjoying the reqwards from abstaining! Life is a heck of lot better.

Also had our anniversary on saturday so got out for dinner without the kids, had cocktails and nice meal. Pretty good wk end all in all, spent a lot of money but was v disiplined at the start of the month! The plan this month is to clear my OD and start saving again, so no more impulse spendings.

Read interesting article re FOBTs on bbc news website this morning , sickens me the ammount of machines they have with the government incredibly stating theres no link to addiction from this machines with theyre high stakes of £100 a spin every 20 secs which is just insane.

Keep fighting ! Gav

Hi Gav,

Thanks for popping by with your continued support, and I am soo pleased to hear that doggie is doing well, and that you are staying positive and strong on 351 days big WHoop to you as you are nearing an amazing one whole year:)

Yes recovery is stronger than the addiction as the days mount up, and yet yes we do keep going OAU one day at a time, because we know it is there in the background.

Keep gifting yourself the rewards of recovery for you and your family.

Proud of you Gav.

Well thanks very much ODAAT!

Well i've done it! Very glad to be in that club, and STAY IN IT!

Dont want to tell yous my life story , but to summarise life has been amazing the past 12 months being in recovery.

Nothing but postives from not gambling. Theres too many people to thank but you know who you are so thanks for supporting me on my journey so far. Some have come and gone i hope everything is okay with yous all.

I didnt think i had it in me to go so far but i realise this is just the beginning of my journey, theres other vices to sort, but i know i can beat addiction, but also that it is a life long journey, but by taking things a day at a time.

Plan to have a nice dinner and an early night, then heading for dinner at the weekend.

Take care all and thankyou!

GAV, you have done one amazing year, your own determination and strength and positivity has brought you to getting to the 3%. Club :))).

Don't underestimate your amazing achievement on this milestone, you have worked damned hard in recovery (and yes it surprises us when we get to this milestone) because we realise it is still and always will be one day at a time with everything. But that is sooo very positive, it means we have turned a very big corner, and we now know there are more corners to turn, but we have recovery on our shoulders now, so we can do it.

Keep turning those new corners Gav one day at a time, very proud of you my friend.
