Great news, not gambling means a return to having a huge positive outlook on life for all of us on here.

Keep it up! Hope your first day back at work was good.

Day 9 .I went to go out before, and my little girl (8) said where are u going dad, the bookies? It's amazing what they pick up on. As she gets older the memory of me going the bookies will have faded because I'm not going there again, those days are over!! Day 9 , (although there is only 50 mins of it left ) I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY

Thanks Ade for taking the time out to post. I find encouragement from others on here extremely helpful, could be the difference between quitting or not to some addicts. Day 10 presents a bit more of a challenge as I'm going to the football with friends who all like a bet prior to kick off. I have already decided that when they go in the betting shop I will simply announce " I'm not coming in as I don't do that anymore" DAY 10 I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY

Never, ever give in to peer pressure. What really matters is what you really want to do and NOT want to do.

It's entirely YOUR choice.

Look forward to the day when your daughter asks you why you haven't been into the bookies for years...!

Thanks everyone for your help! Days 11 & 12, new years eve/day all went well, announced to friends that I'd no longer be joining them gambling before the football, so that is out of the way. Still feeling very strong and determined to continue breaking this. I feel so much less stressed now I'm not worrying about lost money etc... My next goal is to be gamble free on feb 1st. Day 13 I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY

Short term targets really is the way forward in this recovery journey. My current one is just 14 days long with a lovely roast dinner at the end of it!

How about thinking of a small treat for yourself for February 1st?!

Thanks Ade,Paul and getting there, happy new year to you all. Please stay strong everyone and keep going through 2012 and beyond. My reward on 1st of feb will be to pay deposit on a family holiday with the money saved by not gambling. I've just blown the dust off my golf clubs, as on Thursday im off work, wife is at work and kids will be back in school, thus Thursdays in the past were a big betting day for me. Not any more tho, you'll find me on the driving range this Thursday . Day 14 I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY

Day 15. into week 3 , still feeling good. Just taking every day as it comes. When i look at my wife and kids and think how i could have spent the money i've gambled away on them , i feel really low. I'm hoping that after time this will fade. Stay strong everyone. DAY 15-- I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY.

Thanks guys for the support. Feeling positive , just paid a bit of my c/c so the fight back financially is under way. I no im not going to get straight over night but I'll keep chipping away, things could have been worse, I had more c/cards available but came to my senses in time. The urge to gamble has left me (hopefully forever) if I ever returns I will think back to the last fortnight and how low I've felt. I quite simply can't ever go there again, I don't think I could go through it again. Stay strong everyone. DAY 16 I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY!

Thanks for the reply Paul, good luck to you mate. Been to the driving range today, filling in my usual gambling time with a hobby seems to be working. Might try a long walk tomorrow between 3-5pm to take my mind off footy betting. Day 17- I WILL NOT GAMBLE TODAY!

Got through Saturday, walked round the park with the family totally ignoring football scores. Stay strong Paul, time will heal us.
