Today we start day 12. If you would of asked me 2 weeks ago I would have laughed at you.

Whilst I appreciate there are still many more challengers ahead, especially with big events I associated with big bets, mentally I feel so much happier within myself and proud I have made it this far.

At first it seems impossible, but after each day things become that little bit easier.

I structure my days so much better now to try and take away any spare time that I may have and with all the blocks in place like Gamblock and Gamban it takes away any risk if I even had an urge. Agreeing to hand finances over to my wife takes away that risk too.

Everyone I have spoken to in the forums and more importantly for me the group chats have been really helpful and supportive and made this journey so much easier.

Taking one day at a time and staying positive

For everyone that I have spoken with and you have offered your guidance I really do appreciate it. It feels like a family

Hi Tommy,

Interesting you talk about big events to come. Following boxing day I dreamed about Cheltenham, once that was over I dreamed about Aintree. My head was a calendar. Like you I would have laughed at folks who told me I'd get this far. Support is so important.

However all the support in the world can't stop a heroin addict from needing a fix. It takes digging deep into your soul, recognizing what you've lost isn't coming back ,that the addiction is more powerful than ourselves and the realization of the damage we do to others.

When I first stopped I took on board advice from so many on here ( all good advice ). Distractions & their importance. I joined a gym & the first week I jumped on a treadmill. On the wall of the gym there were 6 wide screen TVs. What's the first thing I saw ?. Under starters orders at glorious Goodwood. I knew nothing was gonna be easy about recovery.

Anyone can do it if they've truly reached rock bottom, that's the key. What is our Rock Bottom ?. It took me almost 5 decades to reach mine. You're right, there are many challenges ahead but remember there are no happy endings for a CG who continues to repeat the same destructive behaviour.

You Can Do This

Best Wishes

AL
