Hi Steve,
Great seeing you in chat last night. I had a good laugh in there. I know we are all fighting serious issues in our lives but i think it is important to do it in good humour.
The good thing about being a 28 handicap golfer is that you can only get better. All you need is a nice smooth consistent swing you can repeat time after time and a decent short game which you can only achieve with practice!
The less said about my new putter the better though. At least i have something to show for £140 rather than a losing betting slip though!
Have a great weekend Steve. Make it a bet free one. You know it makes sense.
Hi Curly,
Thanks for the advice mate. I agree, we have to try and stay good humoured through this. I really enjoyed chat the other night, good people in there being honest and open which I liked. I tried it a week or so back and didn't enjoy the session if i'm honest, it put me off a bit but i'm glad i gave it another go.
Don't know about a £140 putter, I think I could have paid green fees for 10 years for both of us with what I've lost over the years lol!!!
Stay Strong
Steve
Oh, I nearly forgot (as if) 5-2 what the hell is going on, chumps to champs in a week, typical Rovers, well done lads!!!
Double post tonight as i'm going to try and embrace my poetic side lol ( inspired by Curly's ode to Queen). A song I heard on the radio the night of my first day without gambling (with a few vital amendments).
" For me betting was a flame,
Gambling is a losing game,
Five story fire as I came,
Gambling is a losing game.
One I wish i'd never played,
Oh, what a mess I made,
And now the final frame,
Gambling is a losing game.
Played out by the band,
Gambling is a losing hand,
More than I could stand,
Gambling is a losing hand.
Self professed, profound,
Til' the chips were down,
Know i'm a betting man,
Gambling is a losing hand.
Tho' I battled blind,
Gambling is a fate resigned,
Memories mar my mind,
Gambling is a fate resigned.
Over futile odds,
Laughed at by the gods,
And now the final frame,
Gambling is a losing game.
(Love is a losing game by Amy Winehouse)
Stay Strong Everyone

LOL Steve

Stumper
cheers for your support on my diary yorkie. . . Was thinking about you yesterday at half time at the match when the announcer said you were winning 4 2. . Keep up the good work we can do this mate.
Hi Steve,
Loving the poem mate. I'll come back and read that whenever i am feeling the urge to have a bet. Excellent stuff and thanks for posting it.
I was thinking of you on Saturday when Donny were scoring 5 away from home. I think Coventry won for Seano, Newcastle scored 6 for wp and then Everton scored 5 on the Sunday for me and Ryan. Quite a weekend for us recovering gamblers. Hopefully Captain had the accumulator as his considered weekend football bet!
Hope to see you again in chat sometime.
Thanks Jeff,Ade, Stumper, wp and Curly for your kind comments.
Had a busy old week this week so far, loads of problems at work including one of my best mates being diagnosed with throat cancer. It has hit hard as he is only 46 yo. Hopefully it can be treated though, the docs are very optomistic. Life's a proper b**** some times. Anyway, will remain as positive as I can for him.
Some good news though, I haven't gambled.
May do chat tomorrow.
Stay Strong
Steve
Cheers for the birthday wishes Steve. It's tomorrow my birthday and i am looking forward to a couple of days off work!
If you are slicing the ball constantly you might have the ball too far back in your stance. To be honest mate my game is a bit unorthodox so what suits me may not suit everyone!
Good to see you keeping those gambling demons well away.
Thanks For the post Steve, and very well done on your continued success in quitting.Sorry to read that your mate has throat cancer,a former work mate of mine had it 10 or so years ago,he had some pretty invasive surgery and chemo etc, bottom line though he's still alive and kicking.
Seano.
thanks for your support on my diary mate. . I guess we all have good days and bad days fighting the evil habit that is gambling. Good to see you going strong my friend and i ll just echo what seano said i have a similar mate in edinburgh who has fought it and he still life and soul of any party. . Keep going mate we can do this. .
Thanks for the posts guys,
My mate is feeling quite confident when I spoke to him yesterday, so hopefully he will be ok. Gonna be a long road though.
Quite pleased with myself for avoiding the bookies today, the urges were massive. Complatency I think. May subconciously thought i'd beaten this. Need to be aware at the moment. Hopefully will manage to avoid Cheltenham next week!!!
Anyway Rovers just gone 1-0 up against Derby. Here's hoping for a late play-off push!!!
Stay Strong
Steve
Cheers for the post Steve,
Glad to see your golf improving. 93 is a decent knock given that you have only started playing recently. Next target is to beat 90!
Doncaster won again today! The play-offs may well be in reach.
Keep strong for Cheltenham next week. It's not worth having a bet as winners are so hard to find in at the festival in any event. Plus as stumper always reminds us we cannot win because we cannot stop. I'll remember that next week.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Steve.
Hi Steve,
Your diary caught my eye as i also think that after a couple of weeks gamble free i think that i am free from it and think that i can walk in, spend a tenner and walk straight back out. Sorry to hear about your friend, all you can do at the moment is be there for him and cheer him up. Well done on your recovery so far pal, keep it up!
Jimmy
