Hi Yorkie,
The best bet you can make is... stay well clear of the whole thing!
As for your work mates... Just tell them that you are bored with the whole racing thing... and its about time some other mug took over the 'run to the bookies' for a change! Simples!
Dont give in to your addiction or indeed create an excuse for it my friend 😉

Thats where temptations begin 😉
Hey Steve
Hope everything went ok national day. Did you take part in the sweep? I've done the one at my work for years but didn't this year. Got asked questions but just said its not part of my job, get some other mug to do it. In the end no sweep was done so that was that.
Just wanted to say thanks for the post on my diary. I think it may have been the reality check I needed. Gambling doesn't beat me, I cave in so enough of the excuses, no more gambling for me at all. Ever! I took your advice and read a few more diaries which have helped put things in perspective.
So thanks a lot mate, a good luck in your continuing recovery.
Hi Steve,
Hope everything is going ok mate.
I swerved the sweep in work on the national. Never win those things anyway. Hope you got through the day ok.
I'm taking a break from the diairies for a while mate. That's not to say i will not pop in from time to time though.
I'll be seeking your opinions on the LOST finale in a few weeks time!
Take it easy mate and keep up your fight. We are all better people when we do not gamble.
Thanks for your posts guys,
I have to admit that I did take part in the sweep at work for £1 and my horse didn't finish. I really didn't care if I won or not, but enjoyed without guilt watching the spectacle on the day. I know some people will think that i'm back to the start again but I made a calculated decision, knowing in my heart of hearts that it wouldn't entice me to gamble further, so I still am counting from 19th Feb 2010. I make it day 56. I did however tell my workmates that I wouldn't be doing the bookies run for them and took the day off. I don't want this next bit to sound as if i'm making excuses, but it is very difficult for someone in my industry to come out and admit that they have a gambling problem. Most colleagues have figured out that I don't gamble like I used to, however they only used to know a fraction of what I used to gamble. I know I could get condemed for this but I have no inclination to tell them in the future.
I didn't gamble on the Masters, but did watch it and I have to say that Mickelson was out of this world, but I do feel sorry for Westwood (I live not far from him) as he put up a brave fight.

Well done for being strong and having a go on the National sweep mate--a good step towards normality because that is what 'normal' people do at Grand National time of year.
I think any industry is hard for somebody to come out as being different from the rest mate.
Keep going forward Steve as you are now doing great.

yorkie. . 56 days 8 weeks mate well done. . The masters was superb mate. . Micksons 2 eagles on the satday night were just amazing. .Must admit was routeing for westwood myself as my dad had wee interest on him. .is it worksop hes from. . Ive a friend who moved from the village back home to a place called dinnington. .he got married there. . Is that near you ??. . .Ive been doing fantasy football for near on 10 years with my mates and its classed as a form of gambling. . Its just a bit of fun but whether i pick a team or not for august will be open to debate. . I will cross that bridge when i come to it i suppose. . Think what im getting at is that £1 you wasted on the national just about covers a trip to the railway station toilets nowadays mate so i think its far from gonna harm ye (unless of course your bursting lol). . Count it or not its YOUR diary my friend your the one in control. Best wishes mate we can do this 🙂
Well done on 56 days Steve. That's superb.
No way is having a go in the sweep gambling. Like Stumper says that is normal for most people.
Keep it up mate. If you can get through Cheltenham and Aintree then you can beat this full stop.
Hi Guys,
Thought i'd post my progress. I think i'm probably entering that complatency zone now, where I used to fall flat on my face and start gambling again, however, i'm really determined to keep this going. Dinnington's not far from me post. Really nice area.

Steve
Yorkie--spot on-it is easy to stop but not so easy to not start again so you need to be on guard at all times. Having said that if you want to stop then I am sure you are strong enough to stay stopped.

Great post Steve,
Complacency is something to be aware of. Remember the pain of past losses and remember what brought you here in the first place. Gambling is a nonsense. We cannot win.
Keep it up mate.
determination beats complacency any day my friend 🙂 keep it going we can do this. .
Hi Steve
Almost 9 weeks m8 excellent work.
I think Steve sometimes it may be confidence that you feel.Confidence that you can continue and in my mind there is no doubt it does get easier. But without the continued work we are not safe from slips. You are doing great m8 .All the best Jeff.
Thanks for the posts guys,
Busy sort of week this week. I'm off next week so there is a lot of rushing around to get things done before i'm off. Got time tonight to go and see my mate who's got cancer though, and i'm really glad I did. He is doing so well, and is fighting it so bravely. A true inspiration, it brought me back down to earth very quickly. We got some good news as well, an old friend of ours who I went with tonight has managed to get us all some complimentary tickets to the crucible next wednesday to watch the world championship snooker, I can't wait, even though snooker's not really my thing.
On the gambling front, i've managed to resist some pretty big urges at bizarre times this last week (like resisting the first 5 bookies I pass in town, only to get an urge to enter the 6th).. I haven't faltered though, thank god! Hope this continues, thanks for all the support.
Stay Strong
Steve
good to see you doing so well yorkie. . Snooker never been my thing either but would just love to be at world championships and add it to my cv of sporting events. . Good to see your friend well too. . Them d**n urges mate hit us at anytime eh. . Very difficult when them shops are everywhere but your winning mate and thats the main thing and is good to see. . We can do this 🙂
