I joined up last night after I gambled a whole months wages in a matter of a couple of hours. I posted on the new comers section regarding my previous & how I was dreading breaking the news to my parents AGAIN.

So my mother got home from work and I explained to her what I’d done, I knew before I even told her that she was half expecting it, as it’s become a common theme for me over the years.

I got the feeling that while I was explaining to her that this was the last time that she doesn’t really believe me and she’s heard it all before. Her response was ‘it’s your life, your money’. Although her response was ‘easy’ I know that it hurts her just as much as it hurts me.

So this is day 1. This time I’m going to give it my 100%.

Iv never really talked to anyone deeply about my gambling and how it’s effected me over the years.

But after I finished my post in the early hours I felt a bit of relieve. No it won’t bring back lost money or time or opportunities but I hope taking this step and reading around this site on other peoples stories I can finally get a grip of this bad nasty habit.

Welcome to the diaries Tommy.

Your sad story will strike a chord with many of us on the diaries. That horrible feeling when we've given our wages to the bookies within a short time of receiving it. Unbelievable that we would even contemplate gambling again after those terrible experiences but time after time we returned to gambling and went through the pain and misery again and again.

It's a good time now to draw a line under under it all and start afresh.

Hey Tommy,

A similar thing happened to me. A short while back I bet a couple of grand online - live casino. I lost it all and was in the process of self harm and closing the account, when the VIP message appeared. £200 in free plays. I actually got the £200 up to over £1,000 but I'll let you guess if I withdrew it, halved my losses and closed my account.....

I told my wife last night about my issues, it hurt to do so. But I was glad to do so. One thing I have learnt is that I am incapable of beating this alone.

Keep Fighting buddy

Cheers Burko. I only been on this site 2 days. But as I was gambling that ‘free’ £250 today. It felt different than normal. It’s like I knew I was doing wrong. Usually that feeling comes after losing. I fell like even joining this site and sharing my issues has given me the motivation to really try and quit for good. Your right about being incapable to do it on our own. But I feel like on this site, doing this dairy, I’m not alone. Long may it continue.

All the best in your own battles buddy. Well only get better at this.

Hey Tommy,

Well done on starting your quest on here, you seem like you have the motivation to achieve your goals which is a really good start. It’s hard at first but believe me it’s gets easier as time passes by, be strong through the hard times and try to fill the time you spent gambling with other activities, keep positive and remember why your doing this. It’s trying to change the way your brain thinks and train it to not think about gambling if that makes sense. Good luck buddy.

Thanks for the good lucks guys. So today I’m going down to my bank to deposit £40. £30 will go to paying off a credit card and the other £10 is going to be spend on the gamban app for my mobile and laptop. Question. Should I close all my accounts before installing the app?

Hi Tommy,

did you install gamban on your mobile? Depending on what make your mobile is you might want to look into some other blocking software as well:

Well done for coming on here, well done for posting and being honest. Keep going.

All the best,

Eva

So I signed upto it, paid the free. I checked on the App Store for gamban and couldn’t see anything. I wasn’t sure on how it worked so I logged into a gambling site that I knew I hadn’t deactivated yet. Deposited and played through £10.

So after that I googled a bit more and found out that gamban has been removed from the apple App Store.

Il have to have a look at the other options.

Gamban still advertising that it’s available on ios (iPhones)

Hopefully they have a solution or a refund for me
