Has anyone heard anymore about the proposed scheme to allow people to exclude from all online gambling by one request that I have read about a few times? When it might come into action?
Only ask because I came across a very old account via an email thery sent me (from many years ago when I had the odd controlled bet on world cup football) that I had not excluded from because I had completely forgotten about it. Went on immediately and excluded for the maximum 5 years and I also got a subsequent email from another affilated site to say that they were also excluding me as a result of this request which I was pleased about.
Just quite like the idea of being able to self exclude from all online gambling, forever, by one request.
Same here I even emailed them cause its gone quiet
Hello Muststop123,
There is this webpage about it on the Gambling Commision website, (Hopefully there will be an update about it this year): http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/for-gambling-businesses/Compliance/General-compliance/Social-responsibility/Self-exclusion/Online-multi-operator-self-exclusion-scheme.aspx
Take care,
Forum admin.
Thanks for the link, on the face of it looks good.
My slightly cynical side looks at the dates and wonders how much of a hurry the online industry was really in to get this in place.
Working party set up June 2014
Briefing paper in May 2015 proposing the system will be available during 2017
Latest estimate now for launch in Spring 2018
I appreciate IT projects often take longer to delvery than originally planned but 4 years from the start of the working party to deliver seems quite a generous timescale. My employer designs and maintains databases on a significantly larger and more complex one that this one appears to be and if a project like this took 4 years to deliver, heads would roll. It is hardly as if the online gambling industry can suggest it does not have the technical skills - their websites must be some of the best designed on the web produced by really skilled teams which must have large databases behind them with customer data and all the gambling related data.
Look forward to its launch.
As with anything, it'll be the terms and conditions that will decide if it'll work or not.
Right now it certainly feels like its the foxes guarding the hen's senario. I hope this exclusion (if it ever happens) will be worth the time and effort that's being put into it
Absulotoly agree it will be worth it but I like many feel it needs to be soon
this is something that i would strongly welcome as my addiction is 100% online slots
Hi
I’ve just had an email confirming this will launch in the next month.

Agreed positveaction it'll help the people with a habit a bit further away, however devil as always is in the details. will be interesting to see which companies are excluded from this etc
My understanding is that, once registered you will be excluded from every company with a UK gaming commission licence (that might be the wrong term)
Any company who operates within the UK needs this licence, so it seems pretty comprehensive.
I REALLY hope my understanding is correct !
For online customers it is a brilliant idea definitely companies must be nervous bout it cause they won't be able to open new ones all time hoping we sighn up. I use the bookie one and that is good
Affected by gambling?
