My partner and I have been together for 3years he is in 1000's worth of debt from credit cards due to gambling nd has stolen from me - we have a little girl and all though he has gone through phases of getting better and then getting worse yesterday was the last straw - he stole money from my bank nd gambled 500 that was left in my account for our rent and christmas presents! I now have only £2 left and no money to even do a food shop!!! I don't know if I should report this to the bank as they have said I can file a police report on it and get a crime refernce to refund the money but I don't know what to do I just feel so stuck!!! I don't want to get him in trouble but how can I live on £2 when we owe our rent now no food and have no christmas presents for our daughter!!!we need the money back!!
I feel so lost!!!
Hi eviesnookums,
Thanks for your post, and welcome to the forum. I'm sorry you have to go through all this stress, and I hope you'll find some support here from other members. I'm sure a lot of them can identify with your current situation, as you're really not alone with a problem like this.
The first thing to think about is to make sure your finances are protected for the future, and that your partner has no more access to them. Have you changed your pin number or thought of any other ways you can protect your account?
What does your partner do to work on his own behaviour? Does he acknowledge that his gambling causes all this chaos in your lives? You and your daughter deserve to have peaceful lives, too, and if his behaviour continues like this with no sign of him taking steps to change things, you may want to reconsider how healthy this relationship is for you.
Evie, we have partner agencies in many parts of the country that can provide individual counselling for you at no cost, if you would like to access any support or to learn more about gambling addiction. Counselling helps a lot of family members and partners come to terms with things, and can help you think about your future in ways you might not have considered. If that sounds like something that might be helpful, feel free to get in touch with us on either our freephone Helpline (0808 8020 133) or the Netline and we'd be happy to chat with you.
Hope this helps, and I hope things get better for you.
Travis
