Hi All,

To get to the point, I've now got access to my hubby's bank account, to keep tracks on him and so he can prove to me he's not gambling and show me where his money is going. This literally happened last night. I knew he had money going into his account and so checked it today and I'm unsettled by what I've seen. There are 5 transactions, all cash withdrawals I think, and all for very rounded amounts.. £200, £250, £50 etc.. I knew he had to buy things today which is why he had his card, but everything he bought was an exact amount? And why take cash out when he can pay with his card? All the money near enough has gone. Am I being too suspisous or would this ring alarm bells for you too?? I'm going to ask about it later. I feel palpitations coming on already! Please not again 🙁

Sparkle, that is exactly what my gambling transactions looked like I'm afraid. Take a bit out, intending to win, lose it, take more to chase it & so on. Chances are, they are all from the same machine & no sane person needs to do that. Even if he comes home & hands you the cash (because the bookies have let him have a bit back) I'd be inclined to take anything he says with a pinch of salt.

Hi

Sorry to see this but yes, massive alarm bells ringing.

My advice would be to ask to see what he's bought and see the receipts for it. See if it all adds up but sadly from what you've said I'd be surprised if he can produce either.

You could find out which bank was used and check on google maps to see if they is a bookies next door

He knows you can see the transactions. So see what he says, hope for the best..but fear the worst

Actually, I would disagree with the advice about checking up. It's not a good use of your time and energy to go chasing after him. You won't get definitive answers, he'll just lie if he doesn't want to tell you. What you describe sounds like gambling transactions, if he can't produce receipts, assume that it was gambling, make no apology for your assumptions and make it clear that you don't and can't believe him.

It's not about how you can stop him gambling - you can't. It's about whether this is how you want to live your life. It's about the effect it's having on you and the family. It's about whether or not you want to change the situation that you're in.
