hi my son has now stopped gambling for 2 months after nearly losing his family, however he is working hard and going to ga , at the weekend he took his family away for a couple of days , he played basket ball machines etc to win prizes for the kids, at his ga meeting tonight opinion was divided to whether this was gambling or not? it has left him a bit deflated . would appreciate others opinions
Welcome to the Forum,
It sounds like your son is struggling with urges to gamble. It is not what he is playing but how. If he played a couple of games and walked away, you can say that he had a bit of fun with the children but it is likely that he sees that as an alternative to his usual gambling. It will take some time before he is free from urges and it is important to acknowledge that and be ready to deal with them by having a strategy in place. He is doing very well if he managed to stay away from gambling for two months and he is going to GA meeting, but he will need to be making a continues effort as the risk will be there.
Has he got in touch with GamCare? We provide a lot of support and we are available 7 days a week, from 8am until midnight. You can also read the information we have on gambling addiction on this website.
I hope that helps
