hi everyone, anyone rebuilt their life after gambling and losing thousands?

I had a lot of money, but this year due to a lot of issues, stress, I used gambling as a coping mechanism and became a compulsive gambler losing thousands and I didn’t stop.

im ashamed, depressed and the thought of the losses just hurts a lot. I wonder if anyone has rebuilt their life? I’m finding it hard to quit, It’s really affecting me. Currently in around 7-8k debt, I have a job trial next week, I got enough money for bills and council tax for next few months.

im trying so hard to quit but its just so difficult. Any advice?

Hi Will,

I stopped gambling in April this year and was seriously questioning how I will ever get myself back on track with having lost so much due to gambling.

The first thing I did was put the stops in place through Gamban and Gamstop. I don't think I would be where I am today if it wasn't for this. I know its tough but I do think these bans are the way forward to being able to fully stop also I felt instantly like I had took a little bit of control back putting these in place for myself.

Since then I have found logging onto here daily to read up on others stories, speak to others in similar positions and speaking to the chat agents has really helped mentally as I know I am not alone.

I got in touch with Stepchange as my debts were out of control and I needed some form of breathing space to get set up with a plan they put me on a debt management plan and I now only pay back what I can afford monthly. They were soo understanding and I have been able to put my money worries aside and focus on my mental health.

Back in April I didn't think I could feel any lower but two months later and I feel amazing. My head is clear and I can't even imagine wasting that kind of money again.

I've found the only way to be positive is to think of the future don't dwell on that money what's done is done. The most important thing is getting yourself back to a place where you no longer feel it takes up your daily life. Have you put the stops in place yet? If not I urge you to do so from then on its only moving forward. 🙂

Good luck I wish you the best healing journey. Well done for speaking out on here it is the best step to take.
