So its 6 days since my last bet and 4 days since i told my family and girlfriend i had a problem.

I've managed to rack up debt to just short of 19,000 pounds and have a few nice pairs of trainers and a couple of items of clothing to show for it, the best thing i have spent my money on is my girlfriends diamond necklace which was only 300 pound, i think that says a lot about gambling and how it has made me work 37.5 hours a week for nothing. I'm 22, i earn a great wage for my age and for what i do, i used to love having money in the bank and also gambling with small amounts.

There was nothing better than coming home from work putting a tenner on my account and sometimes withdrawing 300+ then buying myself something out of that money but somewhere along the line that got lost and the money that i won started being used for bigger bets. Until i was 2,200 deep into my overdraft and was taking out a 10,000 loan last August, which i never intended on gambling away... but look where i am now, a couple of catologues and a credit card later.

I seek advice on these early days because i dont feel the urge to gamble, is that because theres no money in the bank to be able to? or because i know it is the root of al problems. I hope my story helps even one person to realise how quickly you can lose it all.

Any comments are welcome, thank you.

Hi oscregg,

Welcome to the Forum!

I have moved your post to the newcomer section of this Forum as you are more likely to receive responses there.

It is great to read that you have made some steps in the right direction, that you have acknowledged your problem and started to talk about it with your family and girlfriend.

I hope that you will find much support here. While you do not feel the urge to gamble now, you may want to think about putting some strategies and blockers in place to help you, should this change. You can talk to an adviser about this on out Helpline on 0808 80 20 133 or contact the Netline on http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline-services/netline

Both services are open from 8 am to midnight every day.

Well done on your first 6 days!

Kind wishes

Gabriele
