hi I have literally just signed up so I apologise if I mess this up 🤣 I only started gambling 3 years ago when my ex husband cheated on me after 17 years together.
Anyway I only started because I got addicted to something that has ruined my life. It's at the point where I have no money and can't support myself and my twin daughters who are 18 (They have health issues so can't work)
Hi Abbie.
There's no right or wrong way to explain yourself. When you have an addiction, the main thing is that you admitted it and reached out, and that is the best thing you can do.
I'm sorry to hear of your money situation. I have been in the situation where I have been overdrawn constantly and it's never fun, even if you have a decent job and wages come in, you're still overdrawn at the end of the month and it's soul destroying. There's just no savings and you gamble to try to survive and build up some extra cash, but the gambling just takes and takes in reality.
Have you looked at your local council for support? You can often get a crisis payment in very severe cases if you're struggling to pay for food or pay your bills.
You can also call your energy suppliers and by law they must offer affordable repayment plans and payment breaks. I would suggest reaching out to Citizens Advice Bureau who will be able to give you better information.
Finally, the gambling is where you should try to put some blocks in place as this is what is causing you the biggest issue. Either with your bank and the bank card (most banks offer this option now to prevent gambling deposits from the card) or with Gamstop, where you will not be able to deposit online or sign up for gambling sites for a set period of time.
Please keep us posted and don't feel alone. There's chat rooms on here where you can share more in real time and relate to others in similar positions. Wishing you the best of luck with everything from here.
