Hi,

I'm 26 years old and have been gambling since i was 18, I started in casinos then stop with them, but got onto online casinos and sports betting. i never lie to my girlfriend i tell her about all of it but never treated it like it was a problem. She always agreed with my way of thinking to keep me happy but now i've finally admitted to her and myself that I have a problem. I used to think i was in control regardless of how much I lost, but i was never in control, the gambling controlled me!!!! Well no more!!!

Exactly you lose control I have known for some time I have a problem it is hard coming to terms with it! An understanding partner is essential. I myself gave up for 7 months and felt so happy only to be drawn back by a gambling site, who actually put money in my supposedly closed account! 90 pounds to be precise! Have gambled for 4 weeks again but now taking action, no more, I want to use this bad negative experience to help others eventually as I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist. I have taken steps to attend one to one therapy, taking control to beat this, show these sites I will no longer line their pockets!

Hi richieman101,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for taking that brave step to do something about your gambling problem, and after being in denial for the past 8years.

By admitting your gambling problem to yourself and girlfriend, you can now speak openly about it, and it would also enable you to seek for the necessary help and support (including support from your girlfriend) that you need for your recovery.

By reading some of the posts from the forum, you’ll come to realise that you’re not alone in this, and that it’s possible to work through your gambling problem, and eventually overcome it. You’ll learn from others experiences, and perhaps apply the strategies that they’ve used successfully to help you overcome your problematic gambling too.

Gamcare provides free counselling sessions as well to people who think they’ll benefit from it, and thus help them to stop gambling. Counselling is useful particularly for people who might have some underlying issues to their gambling problem.

Maybe, you’ll like to contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133 for more information, and also to discuss your gambling concerns with one of our advisers. You can access our services everyday between 8.00am and midnight.

Thanks again for your post, and pls. try and post as often as you can.

Kind regards,

Beatrice
