Well I didn't want to get any support up until today.  For 2 years gambling became my go to when I had a low mood... 2 years and 5000 lost I had enough.  I joined gamstop months ago so couldn't go on there ..  but then I found non gam sites that would except a credit card..... I would gamble all night go to work so tired at least once a week.  I could cope ... last night I was back on a new site all night lost 500 maxed out last card.... no sleep went to work but couldn't do it.. I had to go home.. so worn out I had to seek advice.. I also reached out and told someone..  I feel worn out and really disappointed with myself...  hid it so well.. any advice please

Hi,

Well done, be so proud of yourself.

All I can say is, keep talking!! I hid my addiction for 5 years, but with help on here, counselling, retreats and speaking aloud to friends and family, I am 800 days gamble free now.

Don’t be disappointed in yourself, and don’t hold on to any guilt. This is an illness. You’ve done an amazing thing speaking out. Also, don’t think about the losses, they’ve gone now and you can’t get it back.

Take a look at Gordon Moody - they offer retreats and counselling. It was the best thing I did.

Take care,

Claire

Hi Lyndsy,

Reaching out today was a huge step — you should be proud of yourself for breaking the silence and asking for help. Feeling exhausted and disappointed is completely understandable after what you’ve been through, but it shows how ready you are to change.

A few things that may help right now:

  • Lean on the support you reached out to — whether that’s a friend, family member, or a helpline such as GamCare (if you’re in the UK: 0808 8020 133).

  • Keep blocking access to gambling sites (e.g., Gamban, bank gambling blocks) so you’re not tempted during low moods.

  • See your GP or a counsellor — both for emotional support and for managing stress and sleep.

  • Rest and be kind to yourself; you’re taking the first real steps toward recovery.

You are not alone, and asking for help today proves you have the strength to move forward.
