Hi,

I am new to joining this website, my name is David. I've visited this site quite a few times before but only to quickly surf through for some advice. I've been gambling for nearly a year now and I can honestly say I've lost so much money. I am currently going into my second year of university, suprisingly doing well which is a big relief but my gambling problem is really starting to bite at me. I just want to close this chapter of my life and start a fresh, start saving; start being able to buy things for my younger siblings and be a good role model but I've been struggling so much. I finally found the courage to tell my parents today about my gambling problem and they didn't handle it too well but I knew it was time I seeked help. I'm praying and hoping I make a difference with my life from this point forward; and I hope I can share that journey with everyone on here as well. Thanks and I'm pleased to be in this society. Feel free to give me any advice as I'm only young and guidance is all I could ask for, thank you.

Hi David. If you look through the many threads on here there is a wealth of advice on how to stop whether its counselling, attending Gamblers Anonymous, dealing with finances, self exclusion etc etc.

My personal advice is this: time not money is the most precious resource we have. Don't waste your years on a totally pointless and destructive activity like gambling. You can't win at gambling. No ifs or buts. Make this a phase in your life you can forget and move on from. Otherwise you will end up like most of us on here, skint and full of regrets. Your choice mate.

That is very true actually. A lot of problems have happened in my family concerning finances so, with me being the eldest, I wanted to help my parents and siblings which resorted in me gambling for a purpose. When I lost, I always wanted to regain my losses but it never went to plan. I've won a lot, but lost a lot more and haven't valued money wisely! I really hope I can change for the best but I'll definitely take that advice into thoughts! Thank you!

Hi Dshoge

You are very young and a happy life awaits you. You have have enough good sense to admit to the gambling problem. Nip it in the bud now, or as Delorean has said, you will have a life full of regret.

You can do absolutely anything that you want to do with your life, except gamble. You have the proof now that you cannot handle gambling responsibly. From this day forth, not one single bet!

Best wishes for a happy gamble-free future.
