Hi, I am a 33 year old male and addicted to FOBT''s. I have probably lost in the region of 20,000 over the last 3 years and this really has to stop.
I am having to do this by myself as my partner does not know anything about it.
I am so angry, frustrated, guilty etc. I just want my hell to end.
I have self-excluded from most local bookies, but living in a suburb of a major city there are 50 bookies within 10 miles of my house, so this is impossible.
Please can people work with me to help me *** this one day at a time. any tips would be helpful, many thanks...
Hi pw and welcome to the forum you say you have no one to talk to at home I felt like this for years on end. You don't have to go through hell on your own were all here to talk and help each other. Look forward to hearing from you. Thomas
Hi pw im also new to this site i have also self excluded from all the bookies in my local area and know exactly how u feel lying to my partner and trying to be happy at work with friends so they dont know how much money i lost.. I confided in my mum and she helped me tell my partner yes at first it was difficult and i felt like she was constantly keeping tabs on me but that's what i needed at first it caused argumentsat home but she did realise that its difficult and its like a illness but its been 11 weeks since i have played a machine and in really starting to struggle with it now but that's why i come on here aswel to take my mind off it and keep me busy i hope you manage to sort it out but your not on your own
HI pw and Thomas
Very sorry guys you have suffered financially and mentally being trapped in the addition the TV ads and radio and web pop ups on sport bets including roulette online and live on TV late at night.
Gambling takes your money and your personality with mood swings then your family leave you it happened to me ! 51 and nothing only hope and a few months living in the real world again not the flashing light , noises the fobts come out with its Heaven divorcing them !
Hi, many thanks for the replies. I am really going to give this a go.
I am OK, how do you guys get rid of the urge to gamble, when you have money in your bank account? It's a lot easier whe lm you are skint, the problem starts when you get paid and actually have money. And of course lose it all, even if initially you may win big.
I found will power and I tried a hypnotherapy video on YouTube helped me and I tried to understand more about why I was gambling and what bought about my urge and worked from there. Try to be the person you are after you have lost your money and this will help you through
Hi pw and Thomas
Before we started to gamble we had no interest , some activities people can lose interest with as their is no reward unfortunately the reward is financial in Gamblers and gives people a short high until they get the urge again the only problem the urge to win more and more money can result in a huge low when they lose mixed emotions ! . Online Gambling we don't see the cash we are gambling it does not register as hard cash !
I guess lose interest in all forms of Gambling with the attitude I am happy with what I have in life I don't need to win by gambling as I don't want any more .
If you didn't gamble the items you wanted would of been yours already

Hi
I can hardly say I am a recovered gambler
However I have not gambled for over a week I cannot explain even after this short time how much better I feel, working day by day has worked for me and once you build up a few days of not gambling it makes it so much easier because you feel like you have a block too build your recovery from, my next goal is too not gamble for the first 3 days after payday, and hopefully carry on from there. Wish you all the best, and hope my advise may work for you.
Calum.
Hi, so I had a pretty bad week last week.
But I am ready for a new start. Haven't gambled since Thursday, only 3 days clear. although driving past a **** on Friday, I very nearly went in " just to win a quick 25", you know those moments when you actually lose 200!
Anyhow I was very happy I didn't go in.
Big week ahead. I will let you know how I do.
As I said in my own post, any time I think about having a bet on roulette, whether it be online or fbot's, I continually try to remind myself how awful it felt to lose so much previously.
Going in to win the quick 20-30 quid can easily result in losing hundreds or more for some as i'm sure many in here will empathise with.
Every time you get that urge to go into the bookies try to pause and have a think before going straight in.
Good luck
