Hi everyone,

I've been a gambler for over a year now and in the end it made me bankrupt. I did stop for about 7 months but then slowly started again. I'm just newly divorced from an abusive marriage but I'm happy I've managed to meet a wonderful bloke and we have bought a house and are expected our first baby in Jan 2016. I already have a beautiful little girl to my previous marriage and she is 6. I have brought my daughter up on my own coz my ex was a waste of space. I turned to gambling coz of my ex he was very controlling and I didn't have anything to call my own. I had one big win then that was it I was hooked and no matter what I won from then on I wasn't happy I wanted more. My life is perfect apart from this evil habit that seems to be taking over again. Can anyone help me? I've tried counciling but find it so hard because of working full time and having childcare issues. My first step is to login on here everytime I have that urge to gamble and chat to people in my position.

Hi Jennylee,

Welcome to the Forum!

It is good to read that you have much in your life which makes you happy and that you have started to feel more settled and safe. You have taken a really good step by joining the Forum and using this platform to chat to people about your gambling problem. Maybe you would like to use the chatroom, too, whenever you find the time and space to log on.

Stopping gambling can be a long journey, but well worth it. You may not need to give up on the counselling option just yet, as there is also online counselling available, which might suit you better and with a baby on the way, it could be a very good source of support for you.

Think about it, Jennylee and if you like, contact us to talk it through directly with an advisor on the HelpLine 0808 80 20 133 or on the LetLine http://www.gamcare.org.uk/support-and-counselling/frontline-services/netline#.VkB4lC1FCfI

All the best to you and much strength!

Kind wishes

Gabriele

hi jenny

welcome to the forum , your in company of people that admit gambling can destroy you , and life,s more important that the buzz of a big win or chase the losses which even worse , i too have a 7 month old baby and after a binge in the bookies yesterday and loosing £200 felt awful all day especially looking at her and thinking why i am i not saving for her or buying her new stuff rather than making the gambling companies more money , we all have choices , im going post later and phone gamecare i can,t control it hands up , you need to do don,t be ashamed we are victims of a ruthless era of gambling being everywhere and no regulations so admit defeat and use your money to build rather than destroy

all the best joe

Thank you for your reply! I'm feeling extremely positive at the moment and life is far too short to waste on gambling. I've lost a lot of money in the past and that feeling is horrible and wouldn't wish it upon anyone. Ur right what u say about watching that money being wasted then having to look in ur baby's face and think how could I do that. I feel a lot better that I'm not alone it's a great comfort. Please keep me updated how u get on xx
