I've been a border line problem gambler for ages but I think I've crossed the line. I try to keep in control but don't seem to be able to stick to my limits. I must have self excluded from 100 online casinos but still manage to find others that will take me on.
Well last night I've decided to try and kick it once and for all. No more casinos, bookies or lottery.
Any hints and tips would be appreciated .
Hi Miller69, welcome to the forum and the community
Firstly, well done for coming here and seeking help. I must admit it's a tricky one. There are 1,000's of online Casino sites, unlike sports gambling sites which are more limited. GamCare have suggested blocking software. I believe you have do pay for this, but small investment considering how much it will help you.
I don't know how bad your situation is. However if your gambling is extreme than I suggest putting other blocks in place like asking a family member to take control of your bank cards. I blocked & self excluded myself from online gambling, it really has helped me big time!
I think another important thing to consider is to ask yourself do you really want to give up? Are you feeling the blues at the moment from a big loss and than a couple of months down the line continue with gambling. Giving up, means not wanting to be that person anymore. The person who thinks they can make one big win at gambling and walk away into the sunset, never to return. Gambling and especially Casino games are designed to give the house or bookies a huge advantage.
Giving up gambling is a life commitment, shamefully there is no golden answer so to say. However it does get easier the more distance you put between your self and gambling. Forget about the money you've lost and try to remember in future the negative feelings gambling gave you. Gave me anxiety, a feeling of helplessness, depression. That's what being that person did to me.
Lastly, I strongly recommend engaging within this forum. Reading the stories of other members will sharply put into context what a life of compulsive Gambling can lead you. Also the positives of what giving up gambling can achieve. Engaging and helping others within the community will help you as much as it helps someone else.
Hope to chat with you again soon 🙂

Cheers Mat, I wouldn't say I was down about it, I just really want to quit once and for all. Sunday night was the first time I've ever chased it. Before I always said I can spend this much and kept to it. I've tried blocking software before but I find it blocks sites that mentions competitions or such like. The past is in the past and I'm now looking to the future. I'm setting my self targets of what I can do with the money I save and hopefully this will help a lot.
Just had a quick look back through my bank statements and it turns out I've lost a full years wage over the last 5 years. I was pretty shocked. I knew I had lost a fair bit but never realised it was that much. Hopefully that will be a kick in the backside that gives me the motivation to stop once and for all.
Great advice given!
The checking of bank statements, been there mate, horrendous , calculating last yr alone i blew 17-18k. Scared the sh)t out of me, did i stop Yes, for a while but then went back on the mad train again!
You need to get to a point where you can say "i can live without gambling"
all the best

Hey mate. It's astonishing how much we spend and dont realir.
I've probably lost about 200k over 18 years of betting and actually staked over 2million as i done some calculations.
Seriously mate, you don't wanna say that in 15 years so kick it now and well done for coming here. It really does help.
