Hi Leeds fan . To make this stopping permanent , don’t make the mistakes of others . The easy mistake to make is that we only see gambling as a problem if we are losing . You mention a lot of good wins but really it’s only a small return on what you have put in . Our brains tend to filter this and only remember the good times and not the countless pain. Keep this in mind and along with others advice you have a great chance of beating this
Really appreciate your advice, oh I’m fully aware I mentioned them as I wish I hadn’t won as it just dragged me in further. I’m thinking about the endless paydays of ringing round people, choosing which bills wouldn’t get paid etc. Really focused this time and feeling much happier even though it’s only been a week,.
Hey there.
I see a few similarities with my own situation.
I gambled for over 20 years, the last few heavy because of the need to gamble and not because I actually wanted to, but football bets were the only "enjoyment" I got out of it, loved my acca's and scorecasts but found whenever is go in bookies for a quick bet I'd lose hundreds on fobts instead.
Watching football whilst recovering is hard, adverts all over the place and even watching soccer Saturday now is all about avoiding talk of the super 6 which they mention every week now. The link between football and gambling seems to be everywhere and as a big football( Newcastle for my sins) fan you can't really avoid it. But I'm 249 days gf now, and the watching of football is easier now than at first, still hard but easier.
I wish you well in your recovery.
Best wishes

Thanks, I can totally relate to that. Massive well done on your 249 days. I guess I want to just go back to being a kid again just watching football for the love of the game than worrying who was gonna score first or what the score will be. Agree on the advertising with betting companies, it’s obscene it just shows how much those companies are making off us (sorry what they used to make off us). The world cup will be a challenge I’m just gonna watch the England games and we’ll prob be out by the 2nd week anyway!
11 days in and still keeping the faith 🙂 Had a bit of a test today, got the email about the World Cup sweep so I ignored it but then everyone was asking how many teams I wanted. A good friend who sits next to me at work quickly changed the subject as she knows my situation. Phew, job done.
Hi leedsfan!
These things are here to test us! Strange thing is that I used to have a few hundred emails at least each week for offers and such but since the data laws have come in you can easily unsubscribe to all the mailing also gamstop must have helped with this too, I’ve had 3 emails so far this week since Monday, I’ve unsubscribed to them. Also my phone would ping about 20 times religiously at 7 o’clock each night(that’s how many sites I signed up to with one network!) now it’s peace at 7 and a smile from my Mrs as I’m out of the loop and well on the road to recovery! I’m 48 days today and it does get easier.
Much love, Daniel

Thanks Daniel, hope you are well, you sound really positive.
Yeah I’ve blocked all the spam emails but can’t do much about a work sweep. I guess as usually I’d be the one organising it, they’re all asking why I’m not partaking. I’m just brushing it off and made a joke of it saying it’s a mugs game. They don’t realise I have a GP, I just went to make a cuppa.
Well done on your 48 days, that’s brilliant. We’ve got this 🙂
Day 12....this is longest I can remember going in recent times without going in a bookies or buying a scratchcard and lottery ticket. I didn’t even bother with the England game last night. Feeling good, it’s Friday, the sun is shining and feeling positive.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Well done!! Here’s to another day and a further step towards the life we deserve and know we can achieve. Have a good day xx

Thanks Claire, how’s your week been? X
Hey! Just finishd reading Alan Carr’s book on the easyway to quit gambling. Really made me think about things differently. Had a busy couple of days which always helps to keep the mind away from those dreaded sites but knowing I can’t get on them is a bonus. Not even thought about trying in the last couple of days. Tomorrow I will be a week gamble free, and even though it is very early days it is a small achievement and something I have not managed for a long time! Hope you have a great weekend! Xx
Affected by gambling?
