My problem is with online slots. I have been gambling for about five years and it has gradually got worse. Its been a few times now that ive had a really bad loss and then wrnt cold turkey, stopped gambling for a few months and then taking another loss again... this has been a constant cycle which gradually gets worse. In a way I feel lucky I have decides that now is the time to get help before it gets too terrible. Im not in debt, no maxed out cards or anything like that although I had managed to save up 700 and that had whittled its way down to 200 tonight ... basically I have gambled 500 in one night! I mean the things that that could have been spent on! Ive stopped at 200 but part of me wants to keep going to see if I can get a win. I need some proper help, the cold turkey thing I keep doing is not working. Im a full time student studying her honours degree and training to be a primary teacher... I dont want it to get to the point where im qualified, spend my wages I get to the point I am in trouble and get in lots of debt. All advice would be much appreciated. Im doing it this time for real! Before it gets real bad!

Hi and welcome! You will find lots of help and advice here from both Gamcare and other users who are experiencing the same problems you are having.

Thankfully you are still at a stage in your life where you can ringfence the whole situation as a big mistake and move on to your career etc. You haven't accumulate any debt and your sensibly looking to stop before it gets too bad so you have plenty of positives still. Most people on here would love to be your position and having the chance to stop before it gets really out of hand so embrace the opportunity.

Stopping without outside help is very difficult and takes a lot of willpower - a characteristic usually lacking in problem gamblers. If I were you I would contact the Gamcare helpline, talk it over with an advisor and they can refer you for counselling etc. You should also consider self-excluding yourself from online accounts and if possible let someone else look after your money for now. Most problem gamblers with access to betting accounts and money will generally give in to temptation so it is better if they are not there to lure you back in.

Hope that doesn't sound like a lecture. I hope you can find a way out of this, move on and let it just be a phase in your life long forgotten.
