Hi.  New to the site.   Desperately trying to get help and quit gambling.

In thousands of debt , and need to quit.  Trying hard, don't bet on my phone at all but will then spend 100s in betting shops.  How do I stop this?

Anyone to talk to with advise

Hi @Sam23

I just wanted today hi and you've made the first step in admitting you have a problem, does the betting shop have an exclusion policy? maybe something like going in and asking them that you be  'barred' from entering/betting, I've read others doing that.

I have no experience whatsoever with betting shops etc as my problem is with online slots so I have blockers put on my devices and also limited access to money

Hi @Sam23

Welcome to the website, I am quite new here too. There is a lot of helpful support and advice here.

Maybe you could start by using the live chat with an adviser here? They can guide you through your options.

I don't use betting shops but I found there is a multi-operator exclusion scheme called MOSES while in the chat room. You can contact them and exclude yourself from betting shops by sending them a photo they circulate to the operators. I'm not sure entirely how it works though.

Thanks.

I'm going to call moses today. I finally managed to tell my partner last night, which feels like a huge weight lifted.    Just feel really embarrassed now.

You need to go and tell them that you want to stop gambling and ask them to ban you for a six months, a year or more. You need six months for the dopamine and serotonin levels so that you get some balance. See it is not just about being bet free it is also about living without a bet. Both can set you off if you get the right triggers. You need to get some therapy for dealing with a gambling free life. You should try some mindfulness to stay focused in the present because we mostly drift when we are on autopilot. Educate yourself about this so you know how you work when things happen and be kind if you fail. It is not written in stone that you close the book and never fall back so you need to be ready for that too. Ask admin here to point you in the right direction. I wish you well!

Hi all.

I have taken on all advise.  I broke down again this evening,  in state of depression and being scared due to monies issues.

I gave my mum a call who came round and now have 2 people to help me win this battle and are both fully supportive.
