Hi All.

I have a problem with sports betting, and have recently relapsed after not gambling for a number of years.

Over the last couple of months I have been back into bad habits of online gambling. Thankfully the money I have so far lost I can afford to lose, but I need to stop before it gets further out of hand.

The worst part is that my partner is not aware of my habit, and is not aware that I have ever had a gambling problem. I despise myself for behaving like this. I am aware that the best way forward would be to come clean, but I am currently too much of a coward to do this.

Today I have self excluded from the account I was using, and believe I can beat this. I plan to post regularly on here (and may start a recovery diary).

Thanks for reading!

D

Hi DB, thanks for your honest post. I doubt you are a coward; more likely fearful of what you're partner's response will be although I suspect it will be positive as people always respect the truth, recognise that we are all vulnerable as human beings and they really value someone having the courage to admit their weakness and to ask for help. That is what healthy loving relationships are built on after all. Maybe reconsider and give it a go? Has to feel right though and genuine, not forced. I relapsed earlier this years after 7 years+ of recovery, so I can empathise with you. Our time off is not any less significant and still meaningful; we simply decided to gamble again and must now make a decision whether we want to stop again or continue? I definitely want to stop, even though it is a fight at the moment. Wish you well and do please keep posting. Cheers, Simon.

Hi Simon - thank you for the reply!

I'm feeling like self excluding and posting on here has been a really positive step. I am feeling no urges at all (for now...), so just need to stay disciplined.

Good luck with your fight - you can do it!
