Hi guys,

I want to start by saying I had never read a book until recently when I read Tony 10, by Declan Lynch and Tony O’Reilly.

Long story short, it’s about Tony OReilly who was a gambling addict; stole money, lost members of of his family and did prison time. I was absolutely glued to the book and although he gambled on an epedimic scale it made me realise in principle we are just the same.

It’s not a miracle worker and it won’t make you stop gambling altogether over night, but it will certainly make you think about gambling tomorrow. More importantly, you will think about the impact it is having on you and your family at present and going forward in the future.

It’s definitely worth a read, I’m sure you’ll agree it’s better then being online playing the slots or the bookies placing a bet!

Yes we were all on that road consumed by a very powerful addiction. I remember hearing stories at GA meeting about life savings stolen from biscuit tins and all sorts.

I thought at the time that I could never do that but the truth is that its an addiction which makes people do all sorts of things on the rocky road downwards. The gambler is consumed by getting the next fix and trying to make it all right again. The mind is controlled and it is an illness.

In principle we are just the same and Its just the stage where different people realise abstention and a full recovery program is needed

Knowledge is power so the more we read about the addiction and other peoples experiences the more we understand

Best wishes to everyone on the forum
