Hello all,

Not really sure where to start, I know we are all here through one thing and that problem is gambling and how it is or has destroyed our life's to a certain extent.

I am approaching 40 and have struggled with gambling for over 10 years now, during that time it has effected friendships, relationships, my working life and caused hurt to a lot of loved ones. If I could turn the clock back I really would but I can't and I need to move forward and deal with this once and for all.

I am at a stage now where I know this is my last chance, no more relapses or borrowing money to fund my gambling habit. I am sick to death of the constant worry,  lack of sleep, the anxiety, the depression that it is causing me on a daily basis.

I could not put a figure on what I have lost during my gambling time,  a lot I know and it has to stop. There are the very few occasions when yes you can win and win well But we all know that in the long term that money will soon be lost along with a lot more.

Previously, I found it so so difficult to stay out the bookies, this did change when they altered FOBTs to a £2 limit, however online betting then became my downfall - roulette and blackjack the main issue.

I did previously attend GA but as a quiet and shy person, sometimes I felt that it was not for me.

I really need some kind of help, I don't really have anyone close to me to confide in and there have been times when I have thought that it's just not worth the hassle and pain it is causing me.

Any belp appreciated and good luck to everyone in getting through each day without gambling.

Thank you

Hello @wg1983 and thank you for sharing on the Forum,

Firstly, I am really sorry you are feeling this way, it is not easy dealing with problem gambling. Gambling is cunning, powerful, and baffling and without support can sometimes be too much.

Gambling can have a huge effect on your self-care and self-worth. If you haven’t already, I would encourage you to make an appointment with your GP to discuss your anxiety, depression, and the feelings you are experiencing, to gain the emotional support you need.

It also sounds like gambling has become an overwhelming feature in your life over the last 10 years, it is all consuming. Experiencing the ups and downs and that worrying feeling is not uncommon so you are not alone. Gambling will most definately affect your relationships and every area of your life, however, so will recovery from gambling.  This is why it is crucial that you start making some changes in your routine and lifestyle because that’s what recovery ultimately is – a complete lifestyle change.

Should you be in need of any further support with your recovery, please feel free to contact the helpline on 0808 8020 133 or via our live chat available from the website https://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-support/talk-to-us-now/  both of which are open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and where one of our advisers will be able to talk, for as long as you need, and look at all the support available to you.

Wishing you all the very best and keep sharing,

Regards

Dan

I'm 19 and im in a similar situation. Blackjack and live roulette are my main problem and I'm constantly chasing my losses and I try to quit but then I just go straight back to chasing numbers. the thing is I enjoy playing roulette and BJ for fun but I just get tilted way to easily after 2 loses and end up blowing the while balance. I'm down just over £1k since I started and it makes me sick to think about because I'm not rich I work in a cafe and I just blow my wages on a daily. Life sucks.

PS I only deposit £10 or £25 at a time.
