Time to finally give up this horrible addiction.

Hi everyone my names Craig I'm 26 and come from Scotland, I've just finished working for W Hill after a 5 and a half year stint of being a shop manager, I now have a new job but sadly over the years have picked up a terrible addiction of online sports gambling and inevitably chasing my money when I'm losing. I know feel that this is the time to nip it in the bud and give up this for the rest of my life.

I'm looking forward to speaking to many of you on here,

thanks

I always seem to find ways to gamble, last Monday I nearly lost all of my £6000 savings account which I had saved up in the bid to buy a house next year, however I ended up winning £6800 with my last bet. Then on Friday night I got the gambling bug again, as soon as my timeout had finished which I had set after managing to win my money back on the Monday night I then proceeded to lose £3800 on sports betting and virtual racing. I'm open and honest about how gambling has effected my life but now it's time to quit !!

Hi Craigy ! First of all ! You're in the right place and well done for signing up here ! I'm also a recovering addict and had only been GF for the last 16 days ... you'll find this place really helpful ! Keep us updated with your progress 🙂 I'm pretty much in the same situation as you are ... if you have time you can read my diary too 🙂

Thanks for reading my post and I've just gave your diary a read too! Think this is going to be a struggle but willing to battle through it. I know for a fact that I'll still be checking horse racing results and football results etc most days and thinking that I could have been betting on them but I've self excluded from all my betting accounts and I've never been one to go into betting shops and bet hundreds like I do online !

The start of day 1 for me and up bright and early getting ready for work. Sadly still have that sickening and gutting feeling in my stomach at the amount of money I lost over the weekend. I've decided that when I have an urge to gamble I'll now be heading into my local gym which is a stones throw away. If anyone else has any good ideas or good books especially then let me know.

Day 2 ! Been a hard last 24 hours especially mentally ! Keep thinking to myself when my next win will come or my next bet but dont have any betting accounts to bet on as they are all self excluded which i suppose is a big help !

A suggested book on another diary is Allen Carr which looks good S:)

I personally would give Alan Carr's book a swerve...I read a few pages & ditched it as in my mind I was reading "just say no" over & over again.

If you're serious about getting help, the Big Blue Book (which is the AA bible for want of a better phrase) is an eye opener. You've been around the site a while so you know that you need to do more than just self exclude & hopefully some people will be able to recommend other self help books.

Have also just read good words over on one of the f&f threads about The Happiness Trap...Recommended by cardhue (Louis) who is successfully using ACT.
