I’ve been using this on and off for a while now recently signed up to gamstop block all online gambling think it is a great idea and I wish it came out sooner. I feel really good not gambling but now all I think about is my debt which is about 15k which makes me feel sick every time I think about it. Makes me depressed thinking about it I’ve lost a lot of money over the years and I want to look forward rather than look back I own up to my own actions I put myself in this mess.

You have just described the solution Conor, own up to your actions, dont let them define you. Seek out help and support to tackle this addiction and move forward with your life. I know you have a large debt but you will pay it off bit by bit, you may seek advice on this also, Debt Camel is a goood place for this.

Each day you are gamble free you will improve, its not easy but the benefits are a normal life at the end of it.

Hi Conorj1993,

Thanks for sharing your story with us here in the forum. Also well done for signing up to gamstop, and I am glad to know it’s working well for you.

Of course you have debts which you intend to pay with time. Try not to stress yourself too much about your losses as that wouldn’t be of much help to you. Rather, let go of all your losses, focus on your recovery, and look forward to a gamble free future. It’s doable, and you can do it!

Apart from seeking help from Debt Carmel as suggested by a fellow forum member – Joe-90, you can also try Step Change on: 0800 138 1111; they give expert advice on debt management.

In case you feel counselling will also help with your recovery, then you can contact us on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers regarding a referral. Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Keep going, and stay strong!

Best wishes,

Beatrice

Hi Conor :))

When the debt's we have are stacked up in front of us our first reaction is " Sheeeeeeeeet " what have I done ? .

The truth is mate the debt like mine didn't happen overnight so it stand's to reason it's not going to go away anytime soon is it , unless you have that " Magic wand " that I kinda wished I'd had to make everything dissapear ? :))

It can all be paid back in time and as your recovery's for life then what's the rush ? , as people have said " It's difficult but dont focus too hard on that issue and don't stress too much " easy to say for me now 3yrs clean but it's the truth and thing's will improve with time my friend .

Wishing you well Buddy :))

Alan
