Hello all,

I signed up as recommended by the company ive applied for an IVA from as I didnt know places like this exist.

Basically ive always enjoyed gambling but this past year, has been bad, I know i have an addictive personality but Ive gone from comfortable to in over 30k of debt and I have literally taken loans out and gambled with it in the hope i would pay off other loans with that money but no such luck.. im at the end of my tether now.. Ive been taking antidepressants for 6 months and others for anxiety..

i THINK ive fixed my problem.. ive blocked sites, well.. ive done a time out, i really need them gone from my life but they dont make it easy.

I know im not alone here, I just wish i could stop punishing myself for f*****g things up so badly, I came clean and told my parents last week.. they want to help me out but at the same time I dont want to take the help.. that is why ive applied for an IVA,

Anyone else done the IVA route?

Thanks all.

Hello forc3_sim

Welcome to the forum.

Well done for taking the recommendation and posting; GamCare helps many people and can help you too.

Gambling is a progressive addiction for many. Things can always get worse. Difficult addiction to fix, best to try to learn to manage the addiction.

I took loans out with the sole purpose of gambling, lost the lot, ended up on the streets, then it was only when I had no money left to gamble that I finally got lucky and had good people help me out.

Good that you are taking responsibility and going down the IVA route. Unfortunately I didn't have the sense or patience for that. I won't disclose the path I went down incase someone follows. StepChange or Citizens Advice are good places for any further advice.

Depression and anxiety are common with gambling addiction. GamCare offer free counselling and you might also find CBT helpful.

If you could hand over your finances to your parents it would help you stop gambling or you could install blocking software.

Respect for taking responsibility and not the easy option. It's difficult having a gambling addiction, there will be bumps along the way but keep learning and trying new things to find what works for you and someday you can be one of GamCare's success stories.

Blessings

Glint

Thanks for the a advice guys, I will be sitting down with my parents tomorrow to make some kind of decision on how to tackle this but its looking likely the IVA will be my best / only option really.

Also thanks for the tips on blocking sites, i didnt know this was a thing so i am heading to do that now 🙂

Thanks again!
