Evening all,

Checking in for a gamble free for the week. Enjoying my holidays at the moment spending some quality time with my family. Welcome to any new comers and all those people who have hit certain milestones. It's not easy but is a whole lot better than our old way of life.

Mr B, I have joined the fantasy football challenge with my selection of potential stars and my 11 year old son asked me if he could enter a team. He has entered one in our league and I hope you don't mind?

Have a great weekend folks.

Mike

Hi Mr B and all - Sorry for the late-ish check-in - have been on grandma patrol quite a bit lately with most of today buried in a sandpit in temperature of 28 degrees. (Should never have given that 'Foreign Legion Handbook' to my grandchildren.....)

Day 158 of freedom for me. Best wishes to all.

Hey, I know it's still early days but for me not gambling on a payday is massive! Feeling good about it, if I can get through this first weekend without gambling then it is a major hurdle for me! This time last week I was in a mess! All sorts going through my head! But as I said its early days and I know I've got scenarios that are going to come into play but hopefully I can deal with them when they arise! Day 2 done!

Hi All again....just wanted to say that I have joined the Football Challenge League ~ never done one before so took me a long time to work out what to do and then how to find it again!!

just wanted to add that Ipersonally don't see this as gambling as there is no actual money loss involved but fdully understand that this can be a problem for others. I would like to suggest that rather than posting on this challenge here about the footie we involved use the forum that comes with the league! This is after all a march to 31/12/2014 challenge and whilst peripherally there can always be a bit of banter regarding the ups and downs of our external hobbies, I would like to respect those here that have no interest in footie

or see it as a part of the gambling addiction....just my personal thoughts on the matter and hope the above doesn't offend anyone.

Be strong, be safe and keep marching strong to a gamble free future. KR's Cliff

Hi there ccw here, I would like to be part of the challenge! I started gambling on my 18th birthday and hit a winning streak online. This felt like such an easy way to make money! After a short while the streak stopped and I was chasing my losses all the time. Then when I lost and realised I had spent all my money I was turning to loan providers for money! After a year of betting like this I have left myself in debt with different companies! I am 8 days bet free right now but I feel being able to talk to other folk and read other peoples posts will benefit me in staying off gambling.

Hi all, back from holiday. Checking in- on day 77. This is another little test this weekend, as the football coupons are back and all week I have been thinking about them as this was a bit part of my life every weekend, but then I just think of all the ups and downs I would go threw every sat afternoon and sunday, 99.9% of the time feeling sick and depressed of loosing yet again, well not this time, I had been a mug long enough. Thanks D.

Morning everyone!!

Well it seems from all the posts this week that most of you are enjoying some great weather.......and then there's Scotland!! Lol!! Hope everyone has had a good week!!

Congratulations to everyone who have celebrated milestones this week - some awesome numbers in there and huge reasons to feel pride!!

There's a big day of check ins required and has been mentioned, a real risk for the team with the start of the football season. This is where the importance of the applying the triangle comes in - time can be created, but we must make sure that money and location have as many barriers as possible placed in front them. K9, self exclusion, ensuring that carried money is kept to an absolute minimum. Be strong everyone - don't give up in all the hard work.

We've got one confirmed new member this week and the potential for some more. Welcome to Sparky1981 - you will be added tomorrow with the update!

ccw95 - I've left a message for you on the very front page of this thread - have a look and if you're up for making the commitment to the team and to your recovery then simply make one more post and you'll be added the Sunday after you've made it. Really well done on your 8 days - don't underestimate the difficulty of those early days - read through as many of the updates and research surveys we've done on the challenge so far this year to understand the ways in which we have supported each other on our recovery journeys. All the best for your recovery and know that we're here for you - seems like you're doing all the right things so far.

I'm going to take a short holiday from the update tomorrow, but I'm delighted to say that bornagain is stepping into the breach!! Thanks Phil - you're a superstar!!

I'll have the front page updated by check in deadline tonight!!

Have a great weekend everyone and don't give in to any temptation.......we know it will be there!!

Mr B

Hi, checking in on day 47.

Just like Matty21, the magic 50 is in sight. Still no gambling and feel great about it. And still busy with wedding thingies. I need to have a plan for after next weekend as my time will be my own again and I have to fill it constructively. My life was only work and gambling before so plenty spare time now, time to do things that I used to enjoy before the big G took a hold of me. If only I could remember back that far 🙂

Gonna have a quick read of the posts now before I go try on my dress again after the alterations. Wish I hadn't eaten that ice cream last night now.

"There are 7 days in a week and someday isn't one of them."

Keep on marching fellow soldiers.

Check in on Day 95, or thereabouts, thankfully Mr B is better at keeping track than i am! All i know is that before i go on holiday next Saturday i will be past the 100 days mark, unbelievably proud of myself. It isnt easy, but trust me it gets easier and everyone of us can do this.

One tip that my counselling gave me was to make a list of things you want to achieve and keep it in your wallet to refer to when things get tough. So if its buying a new house, a new car, saving for a holiday, taking the missus out for a meal or even just buying yourself a new pair of jeans write it down on your list. And keep adding to it when you think of something new.

The sun is shining, its the start of the new Irish Premier League Season and thankfully life is getting better. Enjoy your week folks.
