Well said Del - I know exactly the thread you are referring to and I share your disappointment in the overall tone of it.....especially relating to one of our fellow soldiers.
To everyone else.......apologies, I've run out of steam tonight......just logged off my work laptop and need to be up just before 4 tomorrow morning to try and get into Glasgow to catch the nightshift before they go. I promise I will update front pages, welcome new members etc. tomorrow.
Before I go though.........Joanna, your post really tickled me (and others in my family) this morning......I actually allowed myself to feel good about it.........it led me to look at something that I thought was just so pertinent for this group...........a quote from Gene Hackman, playing Reverand Frank Scott in the Poseidon Adventure........
So what resolution should we make for the new year? It's to let God know that you have the guts and the will to do it alone. Resolve to fight for yourselves, and for others, for those you love. And that part of God within you will be fighting with you all the way.
I think we have found the new pledge for our army!!!
Good night everyone,
Mr Brightside
Thank you Rev.. er, Mr B - great quote. Just promise us that you won't go swinging along any metal structures for the forseeeable future...
Seriously, that quotation you found is very apt and moving. Thank you.
Joanna
Hi all challengers just checking in day55 today and 57 on Sunday . Congrats to all reaching single double and treble digits. Hitthefanx
Just checking in for my third day of no gambling. The urges are coming thick and fast already today. Please please let me get through today without giving in
Well done Bornagain on reaching treble digits, great achievement and may it long continue. I share you concerns regarding a looming payday and A big horse meeting next week. Historically horse racing was my biggest downfall but I will remain strong like yourself and not let my guard down.
Welcome to all the newcomers and well done on the continued progression to the regular forum challengers.
Bex123, you are doing great and just try to remain strong. When or if you get the urge to gamble it will be your second and third actions from that thought of gambling that will get you through it.
Have a great weekend.
Mike checking in on 106 days gambling free. 🙂
Bex the early days were incredibly tough for me, I kept telling myself one more big win and then I will stop, but no big win was ever enough. You have done really well for three days, stay strong and just take it a day at a time. We are all rooting for you, this is a good place to be.
Thanks for the message Mike, its my payday today and thankfully I have no urges to gamble. Next week will be tough, but the more tests we pass the stronger we will become. For me it will be strange to not watch the race and will probably be the first time since I was about 8 or 9 that I've not watched it. But I feel its what I need to do, and I would rather not know anything about it or see any of it.
Really hope everyone is having a good week and getting through payday without any problems.
Day 21...absolutely no temptations, which is great...life is kind of tough but slowly settling down into normality...away on business trip next week for 4 days which I'm not looking forward to, as prone to mood swings and regrets / depression about the amount of money squandered away....
Hi all, just checking in - on day 15 today, passed the 'unlucky' 13 day & 14 day (2 week) barrier. 2 weeks was the length of time i lasted previous time tried to quit, so have passed that. Just spent loads on a pair of s/h hi-fi speakers, so not much cash left, which is good.
have all savings in cash, something like £2 in my bank ac's, so can't make any deposit for online gambling (min £5). Keeping myself busy, feel much more relaxed & much less stressed than when gambling, more secure, more stable. Emailed a referral to soho gambling clinic for support haven't had a reply yet.
Be strong everyone.
Hey folks.
Just an update to say I have completed 3 days. I'm feeling fantastic actually, I feel very confident this time. I'm out with a few mates tonight after a long time of ignoring them for the most part, so I'm looking forward to it. Its nice to invest money in to a fun night than tragically force feeding note after note into a greedy machine. Tonight will be enjoyed, a celebration of an improved state of mind.
Evening fellow warriors,
Love a friday check in 228 days GF.
Have a gr8 weekend folks.
Del 🙂
Ahh thank you happy days and born again, it's nice to know someone's rooting for you. Today's been very tough. Trying to make plans with other half to close off any avenues to gamble when urges have me climbing the walls lol. Got two bookies nearby to exclude from over the weekend, after those are done there are no more nearby. God this is so hard. Going to have couple of glasses of wine and pizza now. Back tomorrow
Evening all, checking in on day 14. I've decided to stick with the count. I exhibited some behaviours this week that I am not proud of but I did not gamble. I can only hope that now my relapse is behind me I can feel more in control and less at the mercy of my addiction. Congratulations to all who have made it through the week and good luck for the weekend.
Hi NoCrisis - glad you have stuck with the count - you didn't even wobble in my eyes, just sorted out a bad niggle that thankfully had a satisfactory outcome. Congratulations on your two weeks of sanity.
J 🙂
Hi i know this is not the place but it's day 6 for me. I can't believe it has come so fast. Checking in here. Spent the entire day yesterday with my wife and baby spoilt them rotten, feeling on top of the world. I am just positive today i know it's a little premature and i have long journey to go but just elated at 6 days.
Hi Guys,
Checking in gamble free for 110 days. Working all weekend and have had the busiest week ever.
Will catch up on the forum next week, but hats off to all of us.
I have money in my bank account. I will not waste it. That is all.
