Checking in day 93
Checking in on 98 "clean" days. I've read Promises's post about triggers. This week was bl**dy awful for me due to medical problems and generally been in pain bordering on agony. Then a family row erupted on top of it all which was to do with a creditor chasing me for payment (hangover from my previous life as a gambler). There were all sorts of emotions running through my head and I was feeling particularly depressed. Trouble with having been a gambler is that past events ie debts can come back to bite you. I could'nt have given a s**t about the company chasing me,I can deal with those b******s. It was more the effect it had on my immediate family. I could have easily caved and said to myself f**k it I'm off on a gambling expedition to relieve the stress. I managed to stay strong and resisted the temptation. You don't have to to be Einstein to recognise these kind of life events can really trigger the gambling off bigstyle. I've gone to far along the line now to give in to the demon now. However, I can fully understand it when people do cave in and have a gambling binge. I suppose if you do it's not the end of the world and if you take of note how you were feeling when the trigger was pulled. Then when something similar happens in the future you can recognise what's happening and it will hopefully make you more able to resist.
Tough life I guess. We are after all flesh and blood and not machines when it comes down to it.
Anyway, keep up the good work everyone.
Thanks to Phil for all the admin stuff he does on The Challenge.
Well done on getting through a tough week Mr Stop, I too had a hangover from the past this morning and not feeling too well myself, but as you say you have come too far now, and so have I, we can only ever win by staying in recovery.
Those hangovers that do crop up can only strengthen our resolve and make us even stronger and wiser.
